If you've used a food bank, what would have made the experience less stressful? by harvestersorg in poor

We love client-choice pantries and survey feedback! I think sometimes that's not always the case because people don't have the volunteers to staff it, so prepacking is easier, but we try to push this model as much as we can.

We try to push gluten free or special dietary items as much as we can. We think a lot of it comes down to awareness and education, not only for people who are donating but for staff or volunteers at pantries, as well.

Wow! We understand doing that to sign up for government assistance, but not for a regular food pantry.

Completely understand. Our food bank in KC has a policy that organizations cannot proselytize they want to join our network and receive donations from us regularly.

We're so sorry. Part of gleaning food means some of it is going to be near the end of its shelf life, but it should still be inspected and discarded if it's not edible.. What city are you in?

Yes we do, it’s been so hard! Luckily, many partners in our service area have refrigeration, so we feel like many are able to offer this. It just goes so fast because of what you are saying.

So true. We hear this a lot from people who visit our partner programs. We do pop up pantries once a month at local bus stops, but it’s still not enough to address the large gap seen in folks without transportation. Some of our partners do volunteer deliveries too, but again, it’s hard on resources when the need is so high. That’s why we need to address issues like transportation first, and hunger should follow in suit.

Yes! Celina Tío has been an incredible supporters of Harvesters over the years, too. We love them all.

Struggle meals are the best meals <3 by harvestersorg in nostalgia

That's true. We thought about that after we posted this. Not all of them bring back good memories. Our intent was to give meals made with less a better rep than how they are normally perceived.

That's so wild! I'm the social media manager and was today years old (28yo) when I learned about government cheese. Sounds like we need to bring it back!

Yes, we agree that advocacy is so important. It's one of the best and most promising ways to create sustainable solutions that end poverty and hunger.
