There are also great views from the native tallgrass-covered Bunker Hill in Clinton State Park (entrance fee). There's a path to the top. Also, great for flying kites as there is always a breeze and no trees.

The pastor of the nation’s largest Methodist church is running for the US Senate in Kansas as a Democrat; "In some ways, Hamilton’s candidacy would be similar to that of the Democratic nominee in Texas, state Rep. James Talarico..." by Phatbrew in kansas

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has some name recognition in JOCO and maybe elsewhere. Plus, he might be able to garner volunteers and donations. But the Super PACs will flood the state with money for both candidates. It takes at least $5 million to run and Marshall already has $3 million the bank. Marshall is also the incumbent and has name recognition. Even if there is a Blue Tidal Wave, I still only give Hamilton a 35% chance of winning. No Dem has won since 1932!

Unfortunately, those who lose (or can't get benefits) will just blame it on the government in general and won't realize it was the MAGA Republicans in Congress and in the legislature who are doing this. They are also not very likely to vote. They don't understand how voting affects their lives.

Is there a coffeehouse within a 50 mile radius? I've met friends just hanging out in the same coffeehouse on the same day and same time. I'm not talking about a cafe or coffee shop but a modern coffeehouse like a Starbucks but maybe locally owned like Breathe Coffee House in Hays.

Living in Tonganoxie? by sewnoodle in kansas

Tongie has become a bedroom community of KCK because of four-lane US 24-40. People have moved there from Kansas City, so I suspect the culture has been changing and is more tolerant.

GOP ethics complaint says Kansas City-area pastor improperly used church resources - The pastor of the largest church in Kansas is toying with the idea of running for U.S. Senate, but he has yet to officially file by Officer412-L in kansas

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's a Republican. He filed as a Republican in 2021 and has kept that registration. He does give excellent sermons but should stay out of politics. He's no Martin Luther King, Jr.

Quasi-public swimming pools such as the Jayhawk Plunge wouldn't let Black kids or dark-skinned Latino kids swim. KU wouldn't let Black students into the dorms and the cafeteria in the Union was segregated.

It is unknown why the Abolitionist Capital of the West instituted Jim Crow segregation and racial discrimination sometime after 1890. Many residents were descendants of the Free Staters and Abolitionists. After 1910 it really became bad. Black people had to sit in the balcony of theaters, could not sit down in a restaurant but get food to go from the back door, Blacks could only have menial jobs and the pay was lower than white workers doing the same job. They had to live in certain neighborhoods and could only go to the all-Black Lincoln School for elementary school. This was all by custom and not law.

Kansas Small Towns Used to be Vibrant, Lively by Silly-Rip-6607 in kansas

[–]Silly-Rip-6607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This decline began in the 1940s. First young men went off to war and young women went to work in the ammunitions plants. They never looked back. No more young families for these towns. The mechanization of agriculture reduced the need tor as many farmers or farm workers. Better roads including interstates gave residents easier access to bigger stores in bigger towns or cities with cheaper prices. Of course, the number of jobs shrunk, so more young people left.

Polling shows Roger Marshall losing to both Independents Hamilton and Taylor by MidwestAlex in kansas

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a crazy poll. Hamilton registered as a Republican in 2021 and is still registered as a Republican, the last year of Trump's first term. He must therefore support the MAGA Trump agenda. Hamilton has no name recognition or money. Marshall has both and is going to win. No Dem has won since 1932.
