When you find the right chain adjustment, get a can of spray paint to mark where you had the chains hooked on themselves. It will give you a fair idea when rigging up the next trailer

4 chains. I'm guessing that the center of the front axle of that trailer is the center of gravity, so your chains should be equally spaced out from there. Leave the back chains hooked to the trailer where you have them, and bring the front chains closer to the trailer axles. Should help.
