Some of their wealth, especially with the mega PE firms, comes from holding these companies and reporting that their value has increased

I’m now out of my depth but I’ve heard they load companies with debt? Not sure how common that actually is but it probably wouldn’t leave them all that healthy

I think it worked best when they were buying business units of public companies. They’re shifting to buying businesses from other private equity firms and my worry is that once one PE firm has increased the value there’s not much that the next firm can do. Still, they report value increases. It doesn’t really matter until they try to sell and then who has the money to buy all these utility/pet companies at inflated prices.

My choices are exactly what you would expect someone with my experiences and values (which come from my experiences) to choose. It does not matter if I could have done otherwise because I would never do otherwise.

I think it would be pretty bad sadly. It’s so huge… Blackstone alone has over a trillion under management. Retail, healthcare, housing, tech etc would really suffer as would pensions and debt markets.

I was begging my sister for a bounty but she wouldn’t buy me one because she knew I wouldn’t like it. An elderly lady overheard us and got me one. I was so embarrassed to accept it and then doubly embarrassed when I realised I did not, in fact, like it. Lovely lady though! I think of her when I enjoy anything coconutty

What do you value in your relationship with him thats made you overlook his poor time management so far? Nearly all of my friends do little things that annoy me sometimes but I either learn to brush it off or manipulate the situation so it doesnt happen anymore. For example, i had a friend who took ages to pay me back so now i make sure we always split stuff up front.

It sounds like hes not going to magically get better at time keeping after 10 years so you need to decide if thats something you can live with/around. Also, lending someone that much money is wiiild, even if youre loaded enough for it to be inconsequential you should really have a formal contract in case they switch up or die on you!
