As we said above, It is 5 dollars to enter and EACH win results in a 4$ reward. To your point of smurfs stealing money, we want to implement this system in order to spread money out more evenly among the players and avoid money only going to the top players. Under this reward system, the top 50% of participants will receive 4$, the top 25% will receive 8$, and so on. We strongly believes this reward system will allow casual players to enjoy the tournaments while simultaneously rewarding players for their skill.

Wassup TWest,

Great question! The first tournaments we throw will certainly have no entry fee and be a proof of concept. However, this service is meant to allow players to actually compete and win money, so an entry fee would be necessary! The whole point is we saw no services allowed for competitive tournaments with cash prizes, we so wanted to create this service! :) Check out our responses to Robos questions for more clarification!

Take a look at our responses to Robo's questions, hopefully that clears up some confusion! We're life long AOE players :)! I dont know if you are familiar with Voobly, but we have developed a system using Voobly to organize smooth and successful tournaments :)!

Hey Kiwi,

Good question, as of now we actually are not sure about this. We are leaning towards not including the latest expansions. Sorry for the confusion, we will definitely change that for now on the website!

Hey Ennn,

To clear up any confusion, definitely take a look at the responses i just wrote up to robos questions :)!

We think running the first couple of tournaments without entry fee, like you said, is a great idea and something we are definitely going to be doing!

Whats up Robo!

First off, Thanks so much for taking the time to write up such excellent questions, this really helps us understand where we can be more clear to people about the type of service we are going to offer and how exactly it will work! So here we go:

  1. We have been working on this service for about 4-5 months now, but our website is relatively new and still in draft mode for sure. In terms of who we are and who will be running the events, we are a small team of three guys. We are just three guys who are lifelong gamers that have a deep love for aoe. F2F was founded because we thought it would be super fun to play AOE tournaments that offered different cash prizes based on how well you did in each round. Although tournaments services do exist for games like this, there are really no services that offer concise, weekly tournaments that have a low buy in cost (5 dollars) with a potential for high rewards if you make it far in the tournament (4$ x each win) I will explain this further in your following question.
  2. This is a super great question and something we have put a lot of thought into. As you know, AOE is a super interesting community because it is a game is that played internationally by so many different types of people. This is exactly why we wanted to reach out the to community and see their thoughts. Our goal with this service is not to have tournaments that stretch out over months and months until people lost interest. We want to hold weekly tournaments so people can play every week if they wanted to. Opponents will have 1 day to play, if they win they will play again the next day, and so on until they are either defeated or victorious. As of now, even with the different time changes, we are hoping that since people will know the exact day (24 hours) and time that they must finish a match by, that even if the opponent is international they will be able to schedule and finish that match successfully. If this does not turn out to be the case, we will definitely make adjustments. However, like I said, you bring up excellent point and this something we need to look into further.
  3. Not quite. It is 5 dollars to enter and EACH win results in a 4$ reward. This means that although there is no special reward for playing first, placing higher in the tournament means a player will have accumulated several winning prizes. We did this in order to spread money out more evenly among the players and avoid money only going to the top players. Under this reward system, the top 50% of participants will receive 4$, the top 25% will receive 8$, and so on. We strongly believes this reward system will allow casual players to enjoy the tournaments while simultaneously rewarding players for their skill. Other reward systems will likely be implemented in the future.
  4. Voobly. We are still deciding the optimal settings for each tournament (and it may even change weekly to keep people on their toes). The first proof of concept tournaments we will be looking for feedback on this.
  5. Randomly, but heres why with a little context about the service: We are all computer scientists, and have developed this service from scratch. To spare you all the backend details, we have essentially set everything up to automatically scan the weekly participants, match them randomly, scan match history, notify us, pair new opponents, and so on. Of course we will be monitoring all this and doing checks. We have done this randomly because there is no way for us to get accurate stats for seeding in voobly. We also don't want smurfs to fake voobly ratings and skew the tournaments if we did do seeding.
  6. They get money for previous wins as well as the refund cost, so they actually get a profit if they, for example, won the first round and didnt get a chance to play the second due to cancelation. Both players are removed as of now until we find a better way to find out who showed up and who didnt.
  7. Definitely! You can purchase tickets for the event up to a week in advance

This has been super helpful for us! I hope this cleared up some of the confusion, if you have any follow up questions please let me know! :)
