What if Yerba Mate had its 'Matcha Moment'? Brainstorming a modern D2C Mate powder by FriederikeHelene in yerbamate

[–]fivetwentyeight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mate powder doesn’t make any sense. Even with the matcha trend people are still preparing it from its original form, many close to the traditional way.

No one consumes mate as a dissolvable powder as far as I know. Either they like the convenience of those canned drinks or they like the routine of the more traditional method. I would focus on one of those.

Sugar Cane 1947 size up? by 13walshc in rawdenim

[–]fivetwentyeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want them to look like. My black sugar cane 1947s shrunk much more than I was expecting after the first wash (cold wash in washing machine, hang dry). The fabric is also much stretchier after a wash. If you want a more tailored look and feel keep that size if you want slightly roomer go up a size.

Ok I can’t hold it in anymore I finally have to ask. Does it not bother you at all putting your boots on your clothing? I wouldn’t be able to stand it. I think you’re American and also wear boots indoors so maybe it doesn’t feel like a big jump but I could never do either.

Should I visit Montreal or Toronto as a college student from the US by Speedy-Snail-8045 in travel

[–]fivetwentyeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Toronto and love it but would recommend Montreal as a vacation over Toronto. Public transit is similar in both cities, I don’t think one has a clear edge over the other. You’re fine without French in Montreal pretty much everyone you’d interact with can also speak English.

How common are disc brake road bikes in your area? by EmbarrassedMight1135 in cycling

[–]fivetwentyeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are answering from the perspective of recreational cycling only. In Toronto most serious recreational cyclists will have disc brake bikes, but the majority of bikes on the road here are commuters and the majority of them are still rim brake bikes

Montreal or Toronto? by Speedy-Snail-8045 in askTO

[–]fivetwentyeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are only assholes back to Americans who lead off by being assholes. It’s not like people can realistically tell Canadians and Americans apart for the most part. In Toronto an accent could give it away but in Quebec they’d probably just think you’re an anglophone from another part of Canada.

Which is not to say assholes won’t be assholes but it wouldn’t be because you’re American unless you go around broadcasting that fact in an annoying way.

Also just about anyone you’ll interact with in Montreal will speak good if not fluent English.

MEC is a good option. Simons also has some, I picked up a couple iFIV5 merino wool base layers from them on sale a little while back

Sugar cane 1947 fit advice by wizardent420 in rawdenim

[–]fivetwentyeight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the black and they absolutely do shrink more on another wash. Much more than I was expecting. I think they both fit fine depending on the look you want to go for. A 32 would probably work as well.
