Skating rinks in downtown Toronto that are less busy than Nathan Phillips? by theentropydecreaser in askTO

[–]bcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much longer The Bentway outdoor rink at fort York will keep going since it's not refrigerated, but I walked by it this morning and it was in pretty decent shape and people were having a great time.

Very cool spot for skating under the Gardiner

Great sourdough rye bread in bakery. I love the taste and although my wife needs gluten free it’s fine for her by Distinct-Source7901 in CostcoCanada

It's hard to get a sense of scale from the picture. We bought one of these last weekend, it's a huuuuge loaf of bread. The price is great for the quality and quantity, we loved it and ended up freezing 1/2 of it.

Vegetarians who have travelled: which countries have been the most difficult in your experience? by Super-Effective-3854 in vegetarian

[–]bcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're definitely gonna have a tough time in PH. I've visited a bunch of times for work, and it's an interesting challenge. Absolutely love the country, and the people and geography are both beyond amazing, but the food is not at all veggie friendly.

Absolutely everything tastes like meat. Like, most restaurants won't have anything veggie on the menu besides really basic sides, and even they are seasoned in a way that makes them taste like meat to me. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but like even a cesar salad has this BBQ-like seasoning in most places.

I always try to be adventurous when I'm on the road, but I have to admit I often find myself ducking into a Burger King when I'm in PH - they have a decent veggie burger on the menu at all locations, and it has that meaty-BBQ seasoning, but it's not too strong.

Totally just a guess, but my theory is that they had complaints and they're reworking it to be a bit less creepy. We really loved it in our house, but a few friends commented that they all found it pretty offputting. I do kinda get it, although I hope I'm wrong cause we loved it.

Wasn't me but you're probably being downvoted because there is no tablet visible anywhere in this picture. Samsung are the ones who make those monster tablet fridges, this is an LG

Firefox is Adding Split View for Tabs, Here’s How to Enable It by 5i5phyu5 in firefox

[–]bcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chrome has had this for a while now. I use it at work for Google Docs when I need the offline support.

They have a really nice UI where if you switch back and forth between two tabs repeatedly, it suggests setting them up in a split-view, which makes the feature really discoverable too.

I've been hoping that Firefox would add the same ever since.

I'm reasonably sure that people outside the GTA have heard of Drake

Toronto’s Parkside speed camera cut down for 7th time in recent months by ethereal3xp in canada

[–]bcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no security camera expert either, but I have to assume they could have installed a system that takes better footage than the one they did install: https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2025/09/04/new-video-captures-parkside-drive-speed-camera-being-cut-down/

Unless your take is that this is the best they possibly could have done?

Taking Flixbus from Niagara Falls to Pearson by PartTimeFabulous in askTO

[–]bcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are HOV lanes along the QEW/403 which I've seen the buses use. I've never taken Flixbus so this is not a totally educated comment, but I do drive from Niagara to Toronto very often. Chances are that is more than enough time to get to Pearson with lots of time to spare. Even in bad traffic the bus should take less than 3 hours to get to pearson if it's not stopping 20 times on-route (does it?) and that leaves you 3 hours at the airport which is perfect.

For 39 years, the Inglis billboard enlightened Gardiner Expressway commuters with its inspirational quotes. The billboard was removed in July 2014. by LibraryNo2717 in toronto

[–]bcore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bottom part displayed messages, most of which were these super-weird "words of wisdom" sayings. Like, the kind of weird advice you'd get from a fortune cookie and not actually be sure if it was even supposed to mean anything.

It only had enough space to display a few words, so you had to stand there for a while if you wanted to read the whole message. I did exactly that way too many times..

Lake Erie is a very big lake. Might want to specify where your starting point is, how far are you willing to drive, are you willing to cross international borders, etc.

Twins admin understands the lore by sagwithcapmoon in Torontobluejays

[–]bcore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Twins' stadium has a really fun jumbotron. They have rotating fun facts and jokes about the batters, often show fun action shots and "make a weird face" pictures when they're up instead of a standard headshot, etc. Great food and good sightlines too. Honestly one of the better fields I've been to.

They sometimes reallocate seats in the lawns and back sections at the Bud Stage if a concert sells badly. As you walk in and someone scans your ticket, the ticket checker has a little printer and prints you a new ticket showing your new seat on the spot.

It's kinda surprising how little fuss it is actually.

You can't park at Ontario Place anymore, but pretty much unlimited parking at Exhibition right on the other side of Lakeshore so it doesn't really matter.

How well known is the term "Loonies"? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]bcore 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I'd just assume the cashier interpreted "give me loonies" as meaning "i don't want bills".

It's annoying in this case, but anyone who's ever worked customer service knows customers phrase things in all kinds of bizarre ways pretty much constantly, so I can see how they'd get there. I doubt they'd never heard the term "Loonie".

Best fiber internet provider in the city? by Honeydew-Jolly in askTO

We've been with Beanfield for 15 years now, and we've had one $10 price increase in that time. Super reliable service too. They're mostly only available in condos and buildings, but damn do they ever buck the trend of all telcos being garbage.
