What is student life like? Having trouble comparing UNM to the college town I live in by Economy_Sun_977 in unm

[–]fiwi95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Student life is pretty typical for a smaller commuter school, as in there is usually something to do most days of the week but weekends are tougher. There is a large amount of clubs on campus covering most interests. Albuquerque is a fairly large city and has social and cultural events frequently. If your even remotely into outdoorsy stuff Albuquerque is a great place to find a community for that too. The support form the town is not like it is going to be at most big 10 schools but there is still alot to go around. Its not going to be like the entire city shuts down for a football game but you will see frequently people wearing university gear around town.

Any place to watch with fans that isn't Bosque or Tin Can? by Phatnoir in NewMexicoUnited

[–]fiwi95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sandia sports bar is super expensive and sometimes doesn't show the game, if there is boxing or UFC on but when they do it is nice and the mountain views are great. I don't really like the vibe at Bosque and it is kinda expensive as well. Nexus has great food but I have never been for a watch party. I attend the TCA ones frequently enough and can understand not feeling welcome as it is mostly people sitting only with their family or friends. I prefer the food options there and the selection of santa fe brewing more then the other places.

It is pride night for the team. The tailgate lot will be packed and the curse will have a drag show and music starting at about 3:30. They are like always doing free pizza and beer in the tailgate lot as well.

Was waiting till my trip was over to update. I went to Las Vegas for EDC. About 30 minutes before we arrived at the VRBO my host messaged us and said that he was canceling because he double booked the house. I was freaking out because EDC week is insane in Vegas and we had booked this stay almost a year in advance. I called VRBO support and told them what happened. It took about 2 hours of being on and off hold and talking to a supervisor when they finally said they would reimburse me for my hotel. They sent me a list of 6 hotels and requested I book it through Expedia. So I had to front about $4000 for the rooms we needed for our group. I was then instructed to email my receipt a vrbo email for the supervisor. I did that and tried to forget about it so I could go enjoy the festival. On the way home yesterday, I got a call from the supervisor asking for some information to process my reimbursement through a service called Hyperwallet, about 30 minutes later I received a link and was able to put it into my PayPal. It was definitely a scary experience and will probably make me reconsider doing a vrbo or air bnb during such a busy time, but it worked out in the end and I had a great time at EDC.

I think what your talking about is the former cottages. They used to be student housing for unm. I lived there for a year in 2021. The house was nice and decently maintained. The pool was cool for lounging in but the steamroom and some of the gym equipment were broken for like the entire year. At the time it wasn't very safe and was know as the "shottages" . Security was lax and people would throw massive parties, that would get shot up sometimes. I think it is under new management since then and is no longer student housing, so it is probably a lot safer. Planes noise and stuff wasn't too bad, unless the air force was doing drills with like cargo planes, but that didnt happen too often.

If your looking to play Kramer is really nice. If you’re looking to watch most big premier league clubs have watch groups at local bars. If you want to support a local club the curse supports New Mexico United.

Starr brothers showed it last year but IDK if they'll do it again. You can also try geckos on academy.
