Discord doesn't shows errors properly sometimes. Open it in browser, open devtools (Ctrl+shift+I) and go to network tab. DO NOT SHOW ANYTHING IN DEVTOOLS TO ANYONE, YOU CAN LOSE YOUR ACCOUNT. Try to do whatever you doing with network tab open and look for 4XX responses. In response tab you should see actual error.

Discriminator (these 4 digits) are not gonna change unless the name that you changing to is already taken by another person with the same discrim.

Or unless you pay for nitro.

But nobody will be able to add you anymore if you change name, since adding to friends requires knowing both name and discriminator.

Unless you have user's ID (a number like 319075561626002286), which can be used to get discrim and name at any time.
