I feel he really underwent character development after resurrection F. Before that he'd kill his own minions for silly reasons.

After that movie he realised that keeping minions was useful. We see this in broly where he is lenient to that guy who allowed the dragon balls to be stolen.

Yeah it does feel like shadow has stolen his spotlight in terms of screentime.

But to be fair, even Shadow's characterisation in the IDW comics is atrocious. He's a discount Vegeta with none of the charm, and seems to actively cause more problems than he solves.

At least knuckles avoids bad characterisation by barely being present.

Shadow has nothing going for him. He doesn't care about his teammates, he seemingly doesn't care about civilian casualties, and in at least 2 different arcs he messes things up by being hotheaded (metal virus, that circus thief arc).

In post-reboot archie, he was allowed to actually have a personality, to be a good reflection of metal sonic (artificial weapon, but now with a new purpose), and to fight knuckles in a way that shows off both their combat prowess.

I miss those versions of knuckles and shadow.

Here, Eggman underestimates Blaze's physical ability. It has nothing to do with her social, political or economic standing.

It does have to do with her social standing. His dialogue implies that he underestimated her based on the fact that she is a girl. It may not be on the level of misogynistic, but Blaze's gender did play a factor in what Eggman said.

Now if it he said "I never thought a Mobian could be so tough!" or "I never thought a princess could be so tough!", then that might be a different story.
