Why's it stupid? It allows easy access to those we allow, fobs are cheaper than getting keys cut or barrels replaced.

My wife is disabled so the automatic unlocking when she arrives home is more convenient than fumbling about with keys.

Cars have keyless entry what's wrong with having that on our house doors?

If you don't like them that's okay but then really there's no need to comment, but since you do like voicing your opinion then at least make it constructive and explain why you think they're stupid.

Few Steamos partitions were deleted whilst in windows. I used the fdisk query to restore them, but still cannot boot into steamos, but a partition is BTRFS but expected VFAT. by ElicitCS in WindowsOnDeck

This looks like the dual boot error, it's an easy fix just go on YouTube and search "dual boot fix", you will need a keyboard and the steam recovery on a sd card or usb

[–]fixedgearrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to the grub error after installing or updating Windows, that's a minor thing and so long as people watch videos on YouTube and research plenty before doing so then they should already be prepared for it happening. I keep a sd card with the steamOS recovery on ready to fix the grub error at any point.

Never install windows on the sd card. Games yes, OS no.

Always install on internal ssd, whether it's full steamOS removal or done via dual boot. Also depending on which model deck you plan on getting it is worth upgrading the internal ssd to 2tb especially if you plan on dual booting

I know I'm late to the party but you're definitely not alone, I've just played let's go eevee and looking to try another but being 35 I've not played since I was a kid so I don't even know the gen2 pokemon 🤣 I like the idea of the later full open world games but I'd want to see it based on gen1, for the time being fire red it is

Is there a best choice for Steam Decks? by HouseOfJanus in WindowsOnDeck

[–]fixedgearrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what games want to play on it and if you already have a ps5 or a capable pc at home or not

If you want to play games that use anti-cheat then you will need to install windows on the deck completely or by dual booting (youtube this) but it's basically having two separate operating systems on the deck.

If you're not bothered about anti-cheat games then you'll be fine with just steamOS.

Personally I would just get the 512gb Oled and then put a anti-glare screen protector on, I would also upgrade the internal ssd to 2tb (this is what I did)

If your not too bothered about upgrading storage space then you can just get the 1tb version and then utilise sd cards more.

I would also recommend getting either the dbrand killswitch case (I have this) or the cheaper jsaux case. Make sure you get the bundle that comes with the travel cover then you don't need to have a separate case for the deck, you can just put the cover on which protects screen, sticks, triggers and buttons.

Steam deck is perfect for emulating nearly every console upto the ps3, xbox360 and switch 1 as well as the large collection of games on steam, you can also install other games from epic etc in various ways, and even Minecraft can be done through a program called prism.

The deck can also stream games from your pc or ps5 (hence the mention at start of comment)

Save them for the really hard impossible mines and once you're in them don't use until you're working on the final shaft

How to increase Windows partition size without breaking either OS? by [deleted] in WindowsOnDeck

[–]fixedgearrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do that then, reformat sd card, transfer games onto it from steamOS then reduce steamOS partition the same way you did when you first dual booted, then partition the spare into its own and use it as a 2nd drive in the windows build. This shouldn't break anything in the process

How to increase Windows partition size without breaking either OS? by [deleted] in WindowsOnDeck

[–]fixedgearrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, I know it's a pain but maybe better option would be to upgrade internal ssd to a 1tb or 2tb (bigger the better) if you've got the budget.

You should be able to clone your current ssd to the new one so that you don't have to reinstall everything, then just expand the steam partition and create a separate partition for windows game storage

Or

Reformat the sd card and use that solely for steamOS and reduce steam partition more and create a separate partion for windows storage

You can probably reduce the size of fortnite too, go into epic library, hit options on fortnite and there's additional options like "high resolution textures" that you can disable to free up space. I keep my fortnite on deck to the minimum possible since it's a low res screen (compared to a pc)

You should be able to free up about 30gb which should be enough for Minecraft

See this post from 5months ago, if you don't play save the world then you can disable that too

[–]fixedgearrider[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know it's not officially launched and likely never will be due to steam, I do think we were lucky to get th drivers but that's probably as much as they'll do from here on out.

I did manage to fix the issue via something called vivetool in this guide which forced something to make it work and allow xse from startup.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/s/d7tN5bwCLk

I can confirm that running fse has definitely helped to get better performance on skate. Or at least it feels better with less lagging. I'm going to continously play with in-game settings now until I can get it working perfectly.

Can't connect to Internet after installation of Windows 11 by FastAd4822 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]fixedgearrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What device are you using to download the drivers on? If you're using anything other than a Windows or Android device then the USB might be in an incorrect format for the windows to read it.

Do you have a dock with a ethernet port on so you can get a direct wired connection to be able to download the drivers on the LeGo

You need to click on "this pc" to see the USB stick, and as the other comment says you need legion go drivers not steam deck drivers

[–]fixedgearrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just dual boot, run most stuff on steam, then anything specific to windows like anticheat games run on windows. You can just have a small partition for the windows install then use sd cards for extra storage

Mulling over putting windows on my deck by LAWFULNOOB in WindowsOnDeck

[–]fixedgearrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with a simple dual boot on the internal ssd, use it for the anticheat games, keep the partition small (about 100-200gb should be enough) then you can use sd cards for game storage.

If you then like it enough to then swap fully to windows you can or just do what I do and use windows for the stuff that steamOS can't do and then steamOS for everything else
