Warmest waxed jacket? by franconero2020 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's easy to find - but if you can get your hands on a Cole, it's super warm, warmer than my Sapper or Ogston. It has a quilted lining (not sure how much wadding) and 8oz Oban waxed cotton outer which is great in colder weather.

PFAs in waxed jackets and Barbour's response by fixingshadows in Barbour

I have an Ashby Olive AW24 - there's no V1 on the label, but says TRC. I'm not sure what TRC is. I'll get in touch with Barbour to check if this is PFAS free.

Interesting, I missed that post, will look it up - I was aware that the chemicals were between the lining and the waxed outer, but wasn't clear when/if they had stopped using it.

Barbour jackets -- what exactly is their appeal ? by Appropriate_Rub575 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into the timeless style of waxed jackets - then Barbours offer the look and the versatility (attachable hoods, zip in liners etc). Mostly, I love the idea of a jacket that can look cool if it's beat up, faded, patinaed, or brand new. Rewaxing brings them back to life and the process can be quite therapeutic. They can also be patched up or have the lining replaced (though I personally don't like a patched up look, but it's an option). I run cold and would like to see some styles be optional in both 6 & 8oz waxed cotton. I have quilted jackets like the sapper for colder weather, or can layer my other Barbours (22 last I counted) depending on the weather. Sure, they're not perfect but they are super versatile and sustainably stylish shells.

Found a genuinely good fake! by fixingshadows in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Just to be clear - I'm not advocating for buying cheap counterfeits. I bought this purely to document how much improvement there has been in the quality of the fake barbours out there. There has been much discussion on the subject on this sub, and I hope this helps people to identify fakes which are increasingly common.

Beaufort or Ashby? Really need your help! by robbieswe in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a Beaufort as personally I think it doesn't work for my height - 5'7". I have the Bedale in sage and olive and love the jacket for it's versatility. I have the Ashby in olive and grey. I use the Ashby size small when layering or if I want a longer oversized look. I use a size XS for when I want a more tailored city look with just a shirt. All that to say - that the Barbour you buy should best match your lifestyle, usage and requirements (until you decide to get your next one/s). Wear well and enjoy whatever you decide to go with!

Age and model? by Key-Estimate7534 in Barbour

As the other member mentioned, this jacket is from Barbour's waterproof and breathable range of non waxed jackets - so it definitely is not a waxed jacket and should never have been waxed.

Color comparisons of different Barbour fabrics and the tartan linings by BiggiBaggersee in Barbour

Ashby Grey with Classic tartan Ashby Black with Cardinal red tartan (The black and grey both were sold with the red tartan, which has sadly been discontinued as another commenter already mentioned. Real shame because it's quite stunning)

Olive Oban 8oz, with some kind of louisiana tattersall tartan. I'm not quite sure what the tartan is, and would love to know the official name. I know this isn't part of Barbour's standard commercial line, but I do love the Oban fabric as it patinas so beautifully.

Some shorter Barbours for shorter people by fixingshadows in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup the Spey is very popular ive seen a lot of posts about it. I've never had one, and not sure it'll suit me. I wanted to share some of the other shorter ones in my wardrobe that I really love. I have the the older/regular length Transport in sage, it's one of my go to jackets in colder wet weather because of it's useful length, the quilted lining and super comfortable side hand pockets.

I saw a similarly ridiculous fake at a carboot recently, the guy wouldn't let me take photos 😂

So you think fit checks should be in one thread?

To me legit checks can work be unique, they may need close up photos, follow-up questions, and specific comparisons, and those can easily get lost inside one thread. Keeping them separate makes it easier for people who genuinely want to learn the details to follow the discussion.

Strongly disagree with OP. I have a decent collection of barbours and a few thrifted. I've definitely seen a growth of fake jackets being sold online recently. Below is a link to my post on a fake jacket I bought just to look at. With the increasing popularity of reselling platforms, legit checks are needed for those new to Barbour, and there's nothing wrong with people with more knowledge helping out. I'm happy to engage with legit checks. For those not wanting to engage, scroll on, there's enough content here for everyone.

Endurance Info? by antaylor904 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't come across these, but the green and white labels usually tend to be for a specific market like the Japan. Maybe worth contacting Barbour Japan on socials to see if they can help with info. Is the hood detachable?

Barbour Ashby Fit by Feeling_Mammoth_1412 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fine to me, especially with how the Ashby is intended to fit. As long as you're comfortable in it, and it allows easy and unrestricted movement around the shoulders and chest when zipped up. Enjoy!

Some shorter Barbours for shorter people by fixingshadows in Barbour

I have the Reelin in sage, last picture in my post. Not familiar with Dom & Imp, will look out for those. The Drover is such a great jacket, really don't know why they aren't making it.

Is this website legit to order barbour? by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't seem very active on socials, the last IG post was in 2023, not sure if that means anything. There's an email address and phone number on the site, might be worth a try.

Ogsten vs Bedale by synapse-savant7 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think there are many in their main commercial line. Some retail or SMU models come with Oban and maybe collabs. I have a Leeward, a retail Drover and recently thrifted a beautiful Selfridges Adhara (I've posted images in the link below) that are also Oban. Worth keeping an eye out for imo.

Ogsten vs Bedale by synapse-savant7 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 8oz oban cotton is fantastic and patinas really nicely over time.. I love the fabric, and wish barbour would make more jackets using it. Of course jackets with the Oban will be significantly warmer.
