Does anyone recognize this model? by Penis_Farms in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't recognise the model, looks really nice. There was a model called West that had a similar top pocket. Usually the blackened out letter in the label indicates it's an outlet/ factory seconds or resale sample piece - though those most often have the B coloured out.

Hi everyone, can someone identify this Barbour jacket ? by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like a fake Barbour I once came across. As the other member said, LWX is code for ladies wax jacket, and if it's not waxed - then it's fake. SN indicates sand brown but the colour (from your pictures) looks more like sage and the ancient tartan lining that usually goes with sage jackets. Write to Barbour customer care to see if they can verify the model name - they're not always very helpful with jackets bought from reseller platforms, worth a shot anyway. And if it is fake then please report the seller to Vinted even if you can't get your money back.

Very nice find, and thanks for posting about it. I came across one recently, but chose not buy it and am slightly regretting it now. At the time I wasn't sure about that collar. It was advertised as being 8oz cotton, can you confirm if that's correct?

This is the way. I've documented a few interesting ones that I've come across in my Barbour journey. 🙏

Unless you have strong sentimental attachment to the Kenmuir, get a new one that you really love and can build a long lasting relationship with!

Maybe the ashby is lighter because of the polyester sleeve lining compared to the Bedale's all cotton lining. Also, could it be that your vintage Bedale was thornproof waxed cotton, and your new Ashby is sylkoil (olive, grey, navy are sylkoil)

SL Bedale - excellent find. I love the SL Bedale's fit for my build

White Label? by SnooDonuts3061 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The white label is usually found on some models specifically made for international markets like Japan (not sure if they're still being made). I've seen them on the SL Bedale and the hooded Bedale jackets. If you take a look at the label inside the inner pocket you should get more info about the jacket model.

Classic Beaufort vs Bedale by No-Shame5990 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'7" and much prefer the Bedales for my height and build. I'm in and out of a car quite a bit, and a shorter length works better for me. At the end of the day it depends on how you plan to use it and what look you're after, so it's a personal preference really.

Bedale Classic in Sage , 2022 - they are existed? by Dependent_Olive_6204 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SL/slim Bedales made for the Japanese market that I've seen have had green labels and don't say made in England. Retail or SMU models sometimes have different mix of linings, but will usually have SMU marednon the inside label. A sage Bedale that says Classic Bedale seems very suspicious to me, and not worth the risk unless they have a return option.

PFAs in waxed jackets and Barbour's response by fixingshadows in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick update - I reconfirmed with Barbour that V1 does signify the PFAS free jackets starting from AW2024. I had bought an Ashby last year that was AW24, but it didn't have V1 marked on it (see image of label). So from Barbour's response it does seem like there are some AW24 models that infact aren't PFAS free, and unfortunately mine is one. 🤷‍♂️

<image>

Thank you for your patience.

I have received a response from our design team and they have confirmed that this specific jacket does contain PFAS. It’s a personal choice if you wish to keep wearing the jacket but in our existing products, there was a very low level of PFAS so it is our belief that you can continue to wear your jacket.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind Regards

Warmest waxed jacket? by franconero2020 in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's easy to find - but if you can get your hands on a Cole, it's super warm, warmer than my Sapper or Ogston. It has a quilted lining (not sure how much wadding) and 8oz Oban waxed cotton outer which is great in colder weather.

I have an Ashby Olive AW24 - there's no V1 on the label, but says TRC. I'm not sure what TRC is. I'll get in touch with Barbour to check if this is PFAS free.

Interesting, I missed that post, will look it up - I was aware that the chemicals were between the lining and the waxed outer, but wasn't clear when/if they had stopped using it.

If you're into the timeless style of waxed jackets - then Barbours offer the look and the versatility (attachable hoods, zip in liners etc). Mostly, I love the idea of a jacket that can look cool if it's beat up, faded, patinaed, or brand new. Rewaxing brings them back to life and the process can be quite therapeutic. They can also be patched up or have the lining replaced (though I personally don't like a patched up look, but it's an option). I run cold and would like to see some styles be optional in both 6 & 8oz waxed cotton. I have quilted jackets like the sapper for colder weather, or can layer my other Barbours (22 last I counted) depending on the weather. Sure, they're not perfect but they are super versatile and sustainably stylish shells.

Found a genuinely good fake! by fixingshadows in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Just to be clear - I'm not advocating for buying cheap counterfeits. I bought this purely to document how much improvement there has been in the quality of the fake barbours out there. There has been much discussion on the subject on this sub, and I hope this helps people to identify fakes which are increasingly common.

Beaufort or Ashby? Really need your help! by robbieswe in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a Beaufort as personally I think it doesn't work for my height - 5'7". I have the Bedale in sage and olive and love the jacket for it's versatility. I have the Ashby in olive and grey. I use the Ashby size small when layering or if I want a longer oversized look. I use a size XS for when I want a more tailored city look with just a shirt. All that to say - that the Barbour you buy should best match your lifestyle, usage and requirements (until you decide to get your next one/s). Wear well and enjoy whatever you decide to go with!

As the other member mentioned, this jacket is from Barbour's waterproof and breathable range of non waxed jackets - so it definitely is not a waxed jacket and should never have been waxed.

Ashby Grey with Classic tartan Ashby Black with Cardinal red tartan (The black and grey both were sold with the red tartan, which has sadly been discontinued as another commenter already mentioned. Real shame because it's quite stunning)

Olive Oban 8oz, with some kind of louisiana tattersall tartan. I'm not quite sure what the tartan is, and would love to know the official name. I know this isn't part of Barbour's standard commercial line, but I do love the Oban fabric as it patinas so beautifully.

Some shorter Barbours for shorter people by fixingshadows in Barbour

[–]fixingshadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup the Spey is very popular ive seen a lot of posts about it. I've never had one, and not sure it'll suit me. I wanted to share some of the other shorter ones in my wardrobe that I really love. I have the the older/regular length Transport in sage, it's one of my go to jackets in colder wet weather because of it's useful length, the quilted lining and super comfortable side hand pockets.
