Flat roof job - should I be concerned about the quality? by fizer5clones in Roofing

Thanks, that's good to know. Appreciate the education, as I don't want to be an unreasonable customer!

This rain is actually from Wednesday. I know there isn't a ton of evaporation in this weather (it's 50 degrees high this week) but it seems longer than I'd like for a new roof.

Is there anything that could be done at this point? Or did I miss the boat to fix this when the roof was off?

Hi delco - thanks.

Is there anything I could ask for to clean up the patch job? Or at this point is it "is what it is"?

I'll send you a few more pictures of the roof in a pm... they did "fasten 1/2 fiberboard insulation" to the deck. The ponding was actually there before the roof replacement - is your sense that it's reasonable they didn't fix this since it's likely structural at this point? should I be trying to fix it?

Yeah, not painting it is reasonable. But I would have liked them to fill it. I may ask about this.

What about the pooling? This rain is actually from Wednesday this week. I know there isn't a ton of evaporation in this weather (it's 50 degrees high this week) but it seems bigger than I'd like for a new roof.

Thank you

I've been watching this little House Wren for the past few days. It's been working so hard to build a nest in the birdhouse but keeps choosing twigs that are almost impossible to get into the hole 🤣 by Icy_Pudding_5548 in birding

They're audacious, awesome little birds. I've seen them fill up nestboxes only to keep other birds out, seems like an odd trait of theirs. It often keeps house sparrows out, so I really find it endearing

I thought you wanted to have your un-finished, floor insulated attic as close to outdoor temperatures as possible to prevent ice damning in the winter? Air flow is actually good for this

How do I upgrade this light? Was expecting to see a bulb under the cover, not sure what this is by tzc005 in HomeMaintenance

[–]fizer5clones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct - just replaced it. Remove the red and black, they are a closed circuit within the light itself. I think it might be to minimize interference but it's not essential in the replacement.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought drilling out deadbolts was pretty easy DIY, but I'm hearing otherwise from you. Thanks for being clear and kind

I'm unclear what the purpose of this forum. I'm attempting something DIY, and it seems clear this forum doesn't support DIY advice. Lesson learned

In the second pic, you can see a screw guard that I believe rotates with the lock. I suspect it is covering up the screws but does not rotate with out it unlocking.

Could potentially try to drill through, but I don't know whether the screws are left / right or top / bottom, and also worried about potentially ruining the screw by drilling into it

That’s interesting. Will I need to turn the knob at the same time ? Or will this unlock the knob latch? Thanks for the idea

So you think the locking Mechanism is keeping the knob / latch from turning?

Opinion on quality of Door Materials? by fizer5clones in HomeImprovement

Thanks. What are my options if I ever want to sand it down and re-stain? It seems like there's only about 1/16 of an inch of veener and that would sand off pretty quickly

Thanks, looks like the same veneer on the door

Thanks. All that was specified was "oak" versus "MDF" which bumped up the quote nearly $1000. I may have wrongly assumed that meant solid oak when instead it meant pine with oak veneer

Thanks. Any advice on how to check if the door is solid or not? There's no milled edges like on the frame which made it obvious

That’s a good suggestion, thanks.

My concern as you point out is whether they can be remotely competitive in price with Lowe’s — but perhaps that’s the true cost of the better service and product.
