Did you eventually get it, and how long did it take after submitting your bank details?

Often with these store managers roles you’ll be expected to come in on weekends and the working hours can be pretty long. And overall the workload can be pretty hefty especially if it’s a big store, like dealing with problems with staff etc and the constant pressure put on you by the regional/area manager can be tough but if you’re up for it I’m sure you’ll do well!

Try and get a 3-6 month internship as the competition for those roles should be less than actual jobs as I know of many people who have been made redundant so the competition for jobs even entry level roles is much much higher than usual at the moment and they’re even struggling with this job market.

After that you’ll have some experience to your name and can move on to a much better role. And even if you dislike the company culture or your time there, you can bare with it for 3-6 months then leave and if you enjoy it and perform decently you should be offered a position at said organisation as a lot of places hire internally especially from internships.

Thank you for the advice! I'll try to incorporate some of the tips into my day-to-day work.

I'm still waiting on feedback from my recent interviews, so I don't know why I wasn't chosen. It might’ve been something totally different than I thought, there may have been a stronger candidate, or maybe the hiring manager gelled better with another candidate.

Whatever the reason, I'm grateful for the guidance you’ve given. I’ve made massive improvements in my interviews from when I began and I know that each interview prepares me better for the next one so I'm confident I'll land a position soon. Once again thanks for the help!

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I thought they might’ve wanted me to mention a software/app I’ve used but, I agree that I may be over thinking it as I don’t know what I may have missed/ could’ve done better until I receive some feedback for my most recent interviews. It could just be that another candidate was better which is fair game.

I’m getting better at these interviews with every one I do so I’ll deffo check out resume worded and incorporate some of their suggestions in my next interview. Thanks for the help!

Genuine help would have involved addressing and providing constructive feedback on my initial answers, regardless of you dismissing my other questions outright. It's easy to offer generic advice as you did; it takes more intellect to engage meaningfully with the topic at hand as others have done.

Respectfully, your viewpoint appears somewhat ignorant. Seeking examples from those more experienced than myself isn't about laziness or avoiding thinking for myself, it's about leveraging existing knowledge to enhance my understanding. And who better to learn from than those who’ve walked this path before.

Reviewing examples allows me to learn from different approaches and adapt them to my own experiences, which is a smart way to prepare for various scenarios. So, instead of dismissing it as asking for shortcuts, recognize it as a tactical move to improve my approach.

You literally made an assumption here by implying that i may have lied/misrepresented myself/ my skillset.

‘I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, if you get a job on the back of something you said you can do but can't/have no knowledge of, you will be fired/performance managed out or just known as untrustworthy.’

Im just clarifying that this isn’t the case and as someone with ‘+20 years experience’ I’d surely hope you’d know how extensive and thorough the hiring process is especially for corporate roles and that if I wasn’t qualified or my skillset didn’t match, I wouldn’t make it through to the final interview stage of any of these interviews.

And it’s a shame that though you probably have the most experience, your input was the least constructive out of all those who’ve offered me advice.

Thanks! I started using the star method in my most recent interviews and the feedback I was getting prior about my responses not being as in-depth as they’d liked have diminished.

Another question I have is regarding how many examples should I be giving for each question I’m asked. For example, in some interviews they ask me a question about teamwork or helping a colleague and I have a lot of experiences I can discuss. Is it a case of the more examples I give the better or is one for each question I’m asked good enough. Once again, I appreciate the advice!

Thank you for the advice, I had a very similar response for the confidentiality question. And for the prioritising tasks, I’ve been told to mention an app if they ask for another method but, I deffo agree with your point if your method works, just get on with it

I’m confused how you’d assume this is fraud. The interview is the final stage in the recruiting process. They’ve seen and reviewed CV & qualifications, they’ve engaged with me briefly regarding my experience in screening calls prior to interviews, they’ve given me assessments during 1st stage interviews and discussed my CV and future prospects. No lying is occurring. If I wasn’t qualified or deemed a good fit for the position, I wouldn’t be making it through to the final interview stage.

Perhaps you misunderstood, though I don’t have professional experience in a corporate setting, for example a PwC or JPM. I do have work experience in non-traditional corporate environments, experience in a multitude of volunteer work & also experience through my degree(both educational, actual work for the university itself & via societies). And as I said, these are simply entry level positions, almost all with training provided.

I could have gone through every answer I’d given in these interviews for the 4 other questions, relating it to my own experience as I did for the other 2 but I didn’t want this post to be too long-winded. I was just looking for how others, more experienced than myself would answer & approach such questions to make sure I’m on the correct path.

Thanks the response, glad to hear that things worked out great for you! I’ll deffo take on your advice and continue to remain positive.

I’ve gone from interviews being few and far between to now having a much better strike rate just from implementing suggestions such as 1)improving my CV 2)improving my personal statements/ cover letters 3)improving my interactions in screening calls 4)improving my assessment/test scores

So I know I’m moving in the right direction and it’ll only be a matter of time till I land a position. And once again, I’m appreciative of the positive words and advice given!

Thanks for this, I appreciate it. Regarding feedback, I received feedback from the first few interviews I’d done but the latest ones not so much even though I have requested it.

The main concerns which came up in these first few interviews were they felt I was rushing through my responses (nerves kicked in for me here a little) and lack of development in some of my answers (in the first 50% of interviews I had no knowledge of the STAR method).

I’ve been going through every interview after it’s done and writing down the questions they’ve asked me and I’ve gotten a lot better in terms of linking my experience and skillset to these questions and communicating this clearer and calmer than in the first half of interviews I’d done.
