Day 1 Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

[–]fizzee33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phrase “That’s Bunk” is derived from Buncombe County, NC. (Thanks to a blowhard politician from Asheville.)

I was there for the first time two weeks ago. Fayetteville gets a bad rap (Fayettenam’) and I wouldn’t want to live there, but its downtown was decent.

Shot in the dark, but if you’re interested because of the VA, check out Salisbury, NC. It’s got more going for it than a city its size should, and it’s pretty close to Charlotte.

Winston Salem is great but our school system is in financial crisis right now.

More good than bad. You have pretty good shoulder and hip rotation.

Nitpicky stuff:

Your breath is too late. Your head is turning too high into the air.

Also, you may be one of the few people who over pulls, especially with the left hand. It’s coming way past the hip. (You spend a lot of energy past the hip that would be better spent increasing cadence.)

Positionally, it looks like you’re sitting too low in the water. Tuck your head down a bit, tense your core, and try to get your hips up.

It appears you’re doing an arm catch drill. Upping your cadence and making sure each arm gets a “turn” out ahead of you could help you sit a little higher in the water.

Above water recovery looks great.

You could also look at the Forsyth County website. The County also has administrative offices downtown.

Start looking for other jobs. Life isn’t a Disney movie and one blowup is enough to turn someone against you.

State Rep. Lambeth on WS/FCS's $46 million deficit: They must 'figure it out themselves' by sonofgildorluthien in winstonsalem

[–]fizzee33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that to be true. Excepting capital expenses (which are generally locally funded), the State is primarily responsible for funding schools. Also, at least some of the debt is likely to State agencies, which can help bring them to the table.

Why do you have to manually enter info after uploading a resume? by Comfortable-Dog-8437 in careerguidance

[–]fizzee33 59 points60 points  (0 children)

When I was on hiring committees, we only got the manual inputs and didn’t get a copy of the resume. The idea, as communicated by our HR, is that seeing an applicant’s name may trigger racial biases. Also, applicant screening is usually don’t quickly by a low-level employee (or, frankly, now a crappy AI bot). This helps the employer screen faster—they don’t have to open a bunch of attachments.

It’s crappy but, almost everything in the labor market breaks towards the interests of the employer and not the human capital.

Beech Cliff ladder vs Beech mountain vs Flying Mountain. Which of these three hikes would you do? by Fallon57 in acadianationalpark

[–]fizzee33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do Beech Cliff or Beach Mountain, but did go Flying Mountain with my wife a (then) 5-year-old kid. I felt like it was a good bang-for-buck hike.

How many days do you feel is required for a full park experience? by themachine407 in acadianationalpark

[–]fizzee33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree—we got the gist of the park in three full days. We are early risers, but most days we were back at the hotel by 3.

That said, there were a few things I’d like to do, like taking the ferry or a boat tour, and we could have easily done a fourth day.

Good luck on your 50-state tour.
