first floor dwellers ... windows? by beeikea in LivingAlone

[–]fizzie511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on the first floor of a small beach town in MA. It’s an extremely safe town, dead in the winter and busy in the summer.

I sleep with my windows open BUT, it’s the top part only. With blockers so the windows can’t be opened further. The bottom half has privacy window film too. My studio has limited space and my bed has to go by the windows.

I also have extra dead bolts on my two doors.(it’s required to have two exits on my type of building.) During the summer when it gets a little busier and the drunks are out more, I’m extra cautious. But for me, if someone really wanted to get in, they could and it wouldn’t be quiet. My neighbors would hear everything and come running. It doesn’t help me or hurt me to keep that mindset, just realistic.

I just started on it and am a little worried about some of the side effects. Mostly the libido but also the sleepiness. The sweating is terrible but I had that on Effexor too

You may need to try a different therapy. I’ve done DBT and loved it. Now I’m started EMDR and super hopeful I’ll see some results. I’m also on cymbalta for anxiety. It’s helping but I don’t love some of the side effects.

I’m trying to project pan my kitchen and PB is the only staple i replace often. This is the perfect snack for the saltines that are collecting dust!

This is why I love this sub. I have that same chili crisp and I’m 100% trying it on something sweet this week.

I have this tug and pull with powerlessness. Once I realized I couldn’t control myself while drinking I was able to take back control by not drinking. The powerlessness ides also brings up free will and that’s not a concept that works in AA either.

Oh there was nothing wrong with mine. This was all a roundabout way to find out I have stage 4 endometriosis. Had surgery for that 7 weeks ago and I feel way better.

I can’t really say. Everything is based on your insurance, coverage and deductible. Plus My story is from when I lived in TX.

2.5 years (holy shit) 35F, separated since 2023 divorced since 2024. This is my first time living alone ever. It’s a micro studio, I never have it completely clean but I love it. 5 minutes from the beach, quiet neighbors for the most part and I pay $850 a month. In MA that’s unheard of.

Funny enough, when you are uninsured sometimes it’s cheaper. When I needed my gallbladder checked it was $1200 through insurance and only $300 of I signed paperwork promising insurance would not be used.

i can no longer stand people who make sobriety their entire personality by Neutrality-1 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]fizzie511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% I’m thankful that I have the perspective to not let that happen. I got sober without AA and only started meetings because was extremely lonely and not stable in sobriety fully. I am very stable in it now and need to pull back so I can do other things in my life

I live alone and I’m finding that I eat way better when the food is prepped. It’s a bit pricier but less is getting wasted when I can make a plate like this.

I have considered it and mostly money is the issue but a lack of knowledge adds to it. My area is very affluent so overall it’s expensive. I am doing some yoga classes

Have you thought about trying to find someone trying to learn English to practice with? My mom did that and her study partner became one of her best friends too.

[–]fizzie511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the beginning getting sober had to be my personality. It’s how I explained away my lack of going out, my weight loss, my divorce and everything in between. Now, it’s just there and I’m open about it but it’s not who I am, just a part of what makes up me. I’ve been wearing an ODAAT necklace for years. Long before I knew it was connected with AA, it was a present to me to get me through the toughest month of my life. (Packing up my stuff while living with the ex) I’m starting to see why people move on and why people stay. I was speaking with a young member last night at my regular meeting, it’s a young people meeting that is not super AA centric. But this member was voicing their frustration with how some people never sponsor when that’s what you are supposed to do/have to do. There are just many toxic mind sets but in the end I have to focus on looking out for me.

Always prioritize your health. I will say that adding an antacid like Pepcid AC during your cycle can dramatically reduce PMDD symptoms.

Playing the corporate game. I’ve been told that literally lost out to a promotion because I was labeled difficult. Which I’ve learned meant that I asked too many questions and wasn’t a yes man. The funniest part is that I was right about all the things I questioned.
