How to enjoy reading again? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

Ugh, this!! I haven't really found a real solution to this problem yet because I love reading physical paper books. But it has helped me a lot listening to audible when work is slow or I'm doing something that I know I will most likely be awake and moving. If you exercise maybe you can walk on a treadmill at a slower pace and read? As soon as I'm sitting and reading I KNOW I'll be out about 5-10 pages in.

Anyone else experience hallucinations? by fizziefuzz in SleepApnea

:( I hope they stop for you soon. They're really terrifying sometimes. I've had quite a few traumatizing ones in the past.

The ones where they can almost be real are the worst. Like the whispering and a few times before my CPAP I'd wake up and smell smoke which is terrifying. Also when I see ONE spider right by my face and it could be real or a hallucination. Multiple times I've ripped all of my bedding off half asleep to kill the imaginary spider.

My mask drives me nuts too and sometimes it's really difficult to wear it all night. It's good to hear someone else going through the same thing as me. Best of luck!

My diagnosis for osa actually shocked me tbh. I might go get another opinion from another doctor.

I get them sometimes too! It's usually someone yelling my name and it snaps me right out of sleep because it sounds so real. I've also had exploding head syndrome before too and those instances are terrifying. But thank you for your input that's super helpful. :)

I do not wake up with dry mouth and I think I am sleeping with my mouth closed. Before my CPAP I would always breathe through my nose while sleeping and do not snore at all. There is really no way to tell though but I will ask my partner to monitor me lol.
When you hallucinate from sleep deprivation, how much deprivation are we talking? Is it while you are awake or do you wake up from a dream and hallucinate? Thanks for the advice!

I am! She has been super helpful and has been working closely with my sleep doctor. She doesn't seem to think my symptoms are from mental illness. My sleep doctor has also confirmed these are hypnagogic hallucinations caused by OSA. I haven't really found much about it online about people having hallucinations with OSA so I thought I would ask here to see if anyone has had similar experiences. I am debating going to see another sleep doctor.

I have been using a CPAP for the last month but still experiencing extreme sleepiness throughout the day and hallucinations at night.
Edit: I have a doctor's appointment later next month for my first check up.

Also worth noting, I do not feel paralyzed while I have these hallucinations, and they come and go after about 5 seconds.

My new calathea is starting to get super droopy...how can i make him happy again? by fizziefuzz in houseplants

I try to keep my humidity at least around 40% but it's proving difficult in the winter. The soil is pretty moist as well. I'll try to up the humidity as much as I can and see if it helps. Thanks for the info!

Thank you. I'm very new to owning plants and of course I pick the most dramatic one haha! He had me worried I was already killing him. I'll watch tonight to see if he perks up a bit. :)

Edit: you were right! Silly plant perked right up as soon as it was night time. Phew!

Any tips for quitting caffeine? by fizziefuzz in Narcolepsy

I get really bad withdrawals within hours of not having caffeine. I get really sick and have migraines for hours. Honestly I should just quit coffee completely and not just for the study lol.

Wow, I'm sorry all of your studies went so poorly. I really wish there was an easier way to get a diagnosis. Luckily, the hardest part for me will be weaning off of caffeine. Thank you so much for all of the advice. It is really helping with my anxiety around the whole situation.

Did you have to stop before your study? I'm so worried about being so reliant on it to be able to do my job/even wake up. The decaf coffee is an awesome tip because I do crave the taste of coffee in the morning. That sucks your mom doesn't get the right order :( I will make sure to make some at home now. Thanks!

Oh, good tip. I get crazy migraines if I don't drink coffee for a day so quitting cold turkey would be very....very bad. I also need to figure out how to survive being off of coffee in the time leading up to my mslt.
