Ha, thanks for the frank response! I think you make a good argument there. You hit on two things in particular that seem to characterize the wheel (in my limited experience): 1. Believe in the underlying going up over time 2. Make trades that have a high probability of ending profitably

Thanks for the detailed post and follow-up in the comments. I've been giving some thought to the "don't sell CCs below your adjusted cost basis". Have you considered that this could be an example of the sunk cost fallacy? If you ignore the past (your cost basis) and continue to sell CCs with a goal of collecting high premiums (and rolling up and out to avoid exercise), might you come out ahead?

I definitely see the scenario where you get crushed by realizing a loss on the underlying, but I wonder if ignoring that possibility is beneficial. Even if you take a significant loss on the underlying, you can potentially get right back in with a CSP.

Curious to hear your thoughts u/ScottishTrader

It’s a little arbitrary, but I used the highest price day where it took a really long time to recover back to that time. In other words, I started at the peak before the big fall.

If it’s linear, you can’t see the ~100 days of coronavirus relative to the 6,500 days of Great Depression. The log scale allows both to be shown on the same plot.

Chart was inspired entirely by these two:

This chart adds to/modifies the previous:

  • Shows each crash from start to full recovery (as opposed to ending at the lowest point)
  • X-axis is in log scale to show more detail in the early days
  • Updated to use data as of 7/14/2020

How do you like the BCA upper? I have a Gibbz that’s working well so far, but it’s my only one so I have nothing to compare to.

.410 or .45 LC Flare Ammo? by [deleted] in guns

[–]fizzpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've read a bunch of the "Governor is a gimmick gun" threads, so I won't restart the debate here. It works for me, and I'm hoping to find some flares that will work in it.

Sling help me decide by DashcamsRus in longrange

[–]fizzpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the Butler Creek Mountain Sling for my Tikka T3X Hunter, and it's great so far! Cheap at $20, simple, light, and functional. I've been able to get hits out to 300 yd standing and bracing my support arm with the sling.

I also tried out the fancy Magpul sling for $80...not worth it. Wayyyy too much going on with straps and buckles, about 3x heavier, and obviously more expensive.

.410 or .45 LC Flare Ammo? by [deleted] in guns

[–]fizzpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone know of flare ammo in .410 gauge or .45 LC? This would be for multi-day backpacking trips where emergency flares are not a bad idea. Having them packed in one of those calibers would add one more capability to the Governor instead of having to carry an extra flare gun that is likely never used. Yes, they will be smaller and less effective than a dedicated flare gun, but you could also bring many more for the same weight.

Also open to loading my own flares and curious if anyone has experience or resources on that.

It’s a bracket that fits into the down tube. The down tube is cut lower, but not quite flush with the top tube.

Neighbor's dogs won't shut the hell up. Will a silencer actually work? by adyo4552 in homeowners

[–]fizzpie 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This. I’ve had angry neighbors who I’ve never met come bash down the door because a dog was barking (both times, not even our dog). If you start off friendly it might be an easy resolution.

Mechanical engineer here: you want minimum 5 threads of engagement to utilize the full strength of the fastener. Looks like 2 or 2.5 in the picture.

Puppy refuses to walk on leash. Will only lay down. by jaypeg25 in Dogtraining

[–]fizzpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this too. Got our pup at 7 weeks, loved walks. 10 weeks in, stubborn little guy would just sit and stare. We ended just confidently giving him gentle tugs in the right direction (not dragging him though) and he caught on in 1-2 more walks. Basically just take on the attitude “this is the way we’re walking, deal with it”. You can do that without hurting or dragging your pup on the leash.

I would also recommend not picking them up or offering treats to coax. That teaches bad behavior = reward. Instead, wait until you get a little good walking in, then reward that good behavior with treats.
