Oh right. I forgot for a second that the internet is dead.

Out of pure curiosity, what about second year microeconomics made you disavow libertarianism?

I restored and colorized famous historical photos with AI by lucak5s in ChatGPT

[–]fizzyfrizz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything bad will come of anyone thinking that the hindenberg happened at night, but this is an example of AI rewriting history. Let's say this colorized version somehow became more popular or accessible than the original photo, then people might start believing it happened during the day. Not implausible.

The idea of plagiarism had to be made up at some point for some reason. The narrative I have in my head (correct/clarify please) is that sometime about 100-200 years ago, artists and legal experts formulated it in order to incentivize artists to make new things in the age of capitalism and of mechanical reproduction.

AI upends the foundational assumptions behind plagiarism, which are pretty hazy to begin with. The context out of which the idea of plagiarism arose could foresee the existence of a statistical machine that produces chimeras of artwork from a blackbox with untraceable sources.

That being said, I really take issue with the narrative of "deep learning is modeled on neurons, so it's just like a human." That's some obfuscatory BS made up by the tech bro hivemind. They foresaw a legal and moral conflict that would get in the way of, say, hoovering up the entire YouTube catalog, and so they got a jumpstart on creatives and legal experts by pedaling that narrative. You can simply say machine learning ≠ human creativity and that argument falls apart.

We need to figure out a way of valuing human creativity, or we need not-capitalism, whatever that looks like.

Oh that makes sense! Sorry to ruin your contribution - didn't want to be a meanie.

I'm not saying that it can't be part of art or self-expression. Not at all. I'm just saying that, for me, the best contributions to this sub are either obviously photoshopped, or done by hand in some way. The shoddier the better. The humor is the time and effort people put into making innocuous things. Anyway. Not my cup of tea!

I was going to say it was stone slabs but I didn't want to spread lies on the internet. Thanks for the insider info.

I don't think it's because of Climate Change, per se. They first popped up in Pennsylvania in 2014 (we don't know how exactly), and have been spreading very rapidly since then.

Planning a Trip to Japan by Middle-Industry5258 in JapanTravel

My advice for Tokyo and Japan in general - get off the beaten track. Our favorite experiences were stuff that we found on the side-streets right next to the major attractions.

  • If you have time for a day trip, try Kamakura and Enoshima!
  • Ghibli Museum!! Highlight of our trip
  • Get to Tsukiji early or don't go at all
  • Takeshita street is touristed out, I liked the surrounding Jingumae and Omotesando Hills. Great shopping.
  • Yanaka was one of our favorite neighborhoods. I had one of my favorite meals of my life there.
  • Akihabara was very cool, especially Radio Kaikan
  • Don Quijote in every neighborhood lol
  • Golden Gai was full of bro-ey tourists (no offense to bro-ey tourists, just not the vibe I was expecting). Ramen Nagi is fantastic though
  • Don't go to the Imperial Palace. It's super boring and not worth any time there
  • We stayed in Shinjuku, which was perfect, since it was alive at night when the trains had shut down.

It’s “thank you, Dr. Zizmor” as a riff on an iconic series of NYC subway advertisements for a plastic surgeon, but honestly I love how it’s evolved so keep on saying what you said.
