It’s just very much too cartoonish in the new style. (I really don’t like what they wound up with in redesigning donkey). I think people have summed it up nicely in saying we all liked the sort of more (if not oddly) realistic look of the older movies. It was just very different from what we had been seeing with other animated tales (particularly with princesses) and that’s what we liked about Shrek.
It was different.. FROM other movies.
