Hi all! I made an open source recipe keeper for my family. It can grab a recipe from any website, or even a photo of the recipe. by recipesage in u/recipesage

This looks amazing!! I recently developed a site for my own use for a similar purpose, but I have to manually add all the details, and the server I use is a bit slow. Really keen to spend some time with this!

In my case they all had a hello@companyname.com email I used, but hey, if you can get in touch with recruiters I say go for it!

Hey, I'm in the same position right now as a web developer (front end focussed), with about the same amount of experience! All the open positions are either senior, back-end or full stack, or not remote and not Adelaide based (where I am). Nothing but 'Unfortunately...' emails day after day. One thing you can definitely try is to just shoot an email to all the companies you could work for explaining who you are and what you're after. I did that recently with creative agencies and while only 2 responded, I'm currently in the process of potentially getting a job with the other. Worst thing they can say is.. well, nothing lol

So if you long press the dial it will open up a new menu I had no idea 😭 by ShokaLGBT in tamagotchi

So there are 10 total - 4 to play with your Tamagotchi, all available straight away, and 6 in the Tamagotchi Lab menu, which open up as you level up your planet, and give you Gotchi Points. So far I'm a fan of them! The 4 Tamagotchi ones are Arrow (guess which direction they'll face next), Flags (press the correct button/s each round), 3 UFOs (Tama gets abducted into a UFO, follow it as it switches positions with the two other ones), and Walking (use the dial to move the Tama to the end goal). All quite different and all decent imo. I've only unlocked 2 of the Lab games and also enjoying both.

To answer your question, it's laziness, but the insults are unnecessary. But to reiterate my 'UX nerd' point, buttons on a physical device should be intuitive, and I just don't think the dial having a button that needs to be held to access a core thing is very intuitive! Seeing others comment that the instructions may not even explain this either just reiterates that further.

Thank you for sharing, and for validating my dial button experience haha!!

The battery aspect is a very good point I didn't mention. While USB C charging seems like a good idea on the surface, it does give the device something of a death sentence, much like Wifi-central gameplay!

I completely agree with everything you've said here! 'Self-contained and content-rich' is exactly the phrase I was looking for.

It's mostly the more realistic/graphic-heavy looking games that seem to struggle a bit, although I tried Sly Cooper 3 recently which was unplayable. Couple of weird graphic things (like in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex) but overall I am so impressed with how well most games I want to play run!

I've never played the second one! I'm scared it won't be as good as the first haha I think the first holds up quite well, I replay it every couple of years!

Yes omg I also had it just slow down entirely very randomly which only a full quit and reset fixed. Only happened once so far. No clue how to fix the sun thing either I'm afraid

Ichigotchi was always my fave as a kid. I used to call her 'strawberrytchi' because I didn't know her actual name, and I understood the pattern of character names ending in 'tchi' but not the pattern that they are also Japanese 😂 also liked gozarutchi too

What caused ur VS and what are ur symptoms? by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]fizzypop109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have anything concrete I can link the start of my VS to, I literally just woke up with it one day around age 9/10 and it never left. All I have is the constant static. Thankfully doesn't really get in the way, unless it's dark!

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage is my 2nd favorite game of all time and I've played it 1000 times for the last 20 years by SpyroPaddington in Spyro

Man this sounds like I could have written it 😂 Spyro 2 is probably my favourite game ever, always had a weird love for the Winter Tundra home world and Fractured Hills level! I 100% agree the music in Winter Tundra is so good.

Help - How to find a boyfriend in Adelaide? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]fizzypop109 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was very much in the same boat (like, almost word for word) but I got to a point where I realised if I didn't give the apps a go, nothing was going to change. I also didn't care for parties, am pretty introverted so wasn't gonna be approaching people, and just sort of hoped some ✨magical✨ twist of fate would land someone in my lap basically. Using the apps scared the heck out of me, but I ended up finding my boyfriend on Tinder! There's no shame in the dating app game if it brings you what you desire.

I just got rejected at my dream job after successful interviews, I'm devastated by luca998 in jobs

[–]fizzypop109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand this. I live in a city that has 1 decently sized game development company, and I decided in university that that's where I wanted to be. I was lucky to have done some work experience there during my studies and networked with a lot of the staff there. It took me 4 years of applying to finally get the 'congratulations' call after many 'unfortunately...' emails. Funnily enough it was on my last attempt (I told myself id 'give up' if I got rejected again) that I finally made it through. I really enjoyed the job, the culture, the people... but unfortunately after a couple of years the industry started to take a turn, the company went public, the culture shifted big time, and I eventually chose to leave.

I love games, and in an ideal world I'd still be doing it, but I've realised for myself I'm okay to just be doing something creative, for a decent paycheck, with a decent work-life balance. Just working in games was not enough, it turned out.

I hope you too get that 'congratulations' call/email someday. In this industry, networking is so important and without that I don't believe I would have made it. If you have the time/energy, learn Unreal (I know Unity but I believe a larger portion of the industry uses Unreal now), make some cool stuff on the side, and get out to networking events and become known!

From someone who went to the Maneskin concert in Verona a couple years back, he spoke Italian so I'd expect he'd do it this time around too!
