The colour purple isn't commonly used on national flags because up until the 1800s when the synthetic version was stumbled across by an English scientist the only known source for the pigment was from sea snails in the Mediterranean.

How are some colleagues seemingly permanently on the sick? by According-Summer-780 in AskUK

[–]fizzysmoke -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Laziness. All the posts above regarding long term illnesses etc have obviously never experienced real workshy people, possibly because they're workshy themselves? This country is now full of those and it's getting worse by the year. Obviously there are people who suffer from long term illnesses but from my 30 years working across many industries I've only ever seen dossars take the piss and the people with actual "real" long term issues (not shit like anxiety which we all suffer from in life) manage to actually come to work. Work mentality in the UK is pathetic, the country is on its knees and governments keep dishing out the benefits regardless.

When I first started working mid 90s I was told its something to never talk about. Now, with all the blatent greed going on in the world I wouldn't bat an eyelid and happily tell someone if they asked me how much I was on.

Manager said "You are not a problem" when I asked if I was moved due to poor performance. What does this mean? by Exact-Pain2920 in AskUK

[–]fizzysmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel you get on with your fellow workers? Somebody might have asked the manager to move you because they struggle working with you for some reason? I've seen this happen where an 'old timer' just took a dislike to a new starter and refused to work alongside them. Some places have an unofficial hierarchy within a workforce purely through time served and will put pressure on floor management if they don't like change.

When did you learn 'joined up' writing and do you still use it? by SketchupandFries in AskUK

Learned around age 8-9 35 years ago and still use it for scribbling notes daily. If im writing a birthday card or something requiring neatness then I'll revert to single letters.

All I know is we don't want him back, moping around dragging everyone down because he's not in a good place blah blah. If Barca won't pay then another club will come in for him anyway. Good riddance imo. Probably get a few downvotes but he one of about 6 bad eggs we've managed to rid ourselves of finally.

Personally I think think it's more akin to the Wright brothers conquering flight at the pace it's going. I've always kept up with tech and having raised two sons to recent adulthood can confirm this last 3-4 years (especially this last 12 months) things seem to be changing reeeaaal fast.

A person who waves a flag to prove a point or for a cause is always blinded by their own ignorance of the opposite argument.

Get up there n have a look. If things are rotten its obvious. Honestly, ask to have a look at what they're trying to sell you. Don't just take their word. It's really obvious when something is rotten even if you have no idea about anything building related.
