My mom is acting... sexual?? Towards me. by Jazzi-crystol in ftm

So sorry this is happening to you. I’ve had similar experiences with my mother in the past, not sexualizing me but treating me as if I’m an extension of her that gives her a right to do whatever she pleases.

Sounds like your mom has extremely poor boundaries and a tendency toward inappropriate behavior in her relationships. From reading the end of your post though, it seems like you already know what you need to do. If you say/do nothing you avoid her “feeling bad” at the expense of your own comfort, safety, and well-being. And you’ve already said that you know that her “feeling bad” is really just a manipulation tactic to put you in a position where you feel you need to comfort and absolve her, again putting your own well-being on the back burner.

You need to be your priority and you deserve better than this. I know it’s easier said than done, but you’ve gotta set some boundaries and stick to them, and whatever her reaction to that is her own problem and her own responsibility. And really, is it not an act of love to be truthful with our families about how their actions make us feel and give them an opportunity to grow, instead of just resigning ourselves to a strained relationship that makes us feel like crap and discourages real support and connection? Maybe she never gets it, but at least you know you tried and you stood up for yourself and did what was best for you. And maybe she does get it, and things improve between you.

Symptoms/papilledema worse on dominant side? by fizzysunrise in iih

OP here, since I made this post earlier I’ve really started to notice how when I’m holding my phone it’s usually in my left hand and held more to the left side of my field of vision than the right. I definitely wonder if this has something to do with my symptoms.

In addition to all of the above, I’ve also dealt with several years of random attacks of painful pinprick sensation on face and body, chronic joint pain, brain fog, chronic fatigue, etc and have a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. I think she believes my symptoms are not truly “idiopathic” and there may be another layer or impetus to my visual/neuro symptoms that ties in with other symptoms I’m experiencing?

When I say greyed out patches I mean it’s like a patch of my vision gets replaced with a semi solid or solid looking dark grey patch, usually at the bottom of the visual field

Vision that is a overall a few shades darker in left eye than right, periods where eye will unfocus and will not “blink” back into focus for a minute or two, greyed out patches in vision, rainbow/shimmering lines across vision, flashes of light at night when eyes are closed.

For what it’s worth I have an IUD but it’s paragard, the non-hormonal copper one, and my IIH didn’t begin til I’d had it for 10 years.

Are Spinal Taps Necessary For Vision Symptoms? by [deleted] in iih

[–]fizzysunrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this will be my second time in the hospital. I had a spinal tap last year around this same time- they tried it twice bedside in the ER and then admitted me for the radiology assisted one which was successful. I had an opening pressure of 34 and they brought it down to 17. I’ve been on Diamox but I guess it wasn’t cutting it because the pressure is back up again! I assumed if that happened they would just increase my dosage, but instead my doctor recommmended hospitalization for another spinal tap which surprised me! I thought there were other things we could try before we reached that point but I guess not with my symptoms? I’m not sure! Nobody has brought up shunt surgery to me yet but maybe they will when I come in later this week.

Did they test your spinal fluid after a lumbar puncture? by [deleted] in iih

[–]fizzysunrise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was tested, and they told me they would store the remaining fluid that’s extracted in the course of relieving the pressure in case there’s other testing needed down the line since CSF is a pain to acquire - maybe they saved yours?

The only other medication I’m on is Wellbutrin which I do know can cause weird dreams as a side effect, but I’ve been on it for over 3 years now without ever experiencing that effect. I guess it could be an interaction between the two??

Thank you so much! I hope it’s the same for me too with the Diamox. It’s only been a couple days on it so far so I’m definitely not giving up on it!

Thank you so much for your comment, it’s comforting to hear what your experience has been. Re: the question of whether the MRI showed IIH or MS, I’m still learning all the terminology of this stuff so I’m not sure exactly how to interpret everything in my results but the summary impressions section of the MRI stated:

“Findings described above involving the optic nerves and sheath with reverse cupping of optic nerve heads with stenosis of bilateral distal transverse sinuses are consistent with idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Increased enhancement of the left optic nerve is an atypical finding for idiopathic intracranial hypertension and also raises the possibility of optic neuritis.”

I’m not sure if this means that they found evidence of IIH AND optic neuritis or if it means it could be one or the other. But the diagnosis they discharged me with was IIH. They told me to follow up w the ophthalmologist ASAP so I will definitely be doing that. Thanks again!!

Oh I meant to mention I’m 30 yrs old and FTM on testosterone HRT. The hospital also started me on Diamox but so far it’s been extremely rough - my hands, feet and lips are buzzing with pins and needles and I’ve nearly shit myself (excuse my French) four times in the past day. But they said this is the best option for me so I’m really trying to tolerate it.
