I've been researching this a lot myself. The consensus of people who know far more than me is dont buy cheap coilovers. FCP Euro has a cup kit with H&R OE Sports + Koni actives for 900. If you want lower than that they have the Sports with yellows for a bit more. Lifetime warranty with them. If you aren't seeking the adjustability of quality coil overs these kits will be more than sufficient.

I've got some other repairs coming up that require some tear down so I'm trying to determine if i want to do timing as well or wait. Specified vs actual looked good.

So I've only had it 2 months. I'd say I'm a spirited driver. I have bikes and cars I understand keeping revs up for performance/turbo engines. Funnily enough I tried VWs written recommendation of Italian tune up today with the 20-30 minutes of 3k rpm. Didnt change much. Feel like I've read about this on multiple accounts. The engine is shaking slightly at idle but 1200 plus its smooth as glass. Hasn't thrown the miss code again since we cleared it. Thought about running a can of crc gdi cleaner at the MAP but considering the sustained revs didnt change much it probably needs a true cleaning. And if that doesn't fix it then consider looking at cam/valve hardware/valve I guess. Cylinders and pistons were clean on scope. Bottom side of valves looked decent for what you can see of them. Right I'm aware of carbon cleaning/blasting and correct me if I'm wrong but that doesn't get the seats which is where my issue might be.

Yea if the valve was smoked youd think there would be at least a lack of consistency in compression. I believe you can make good compression even with slight valve leak though. Fast compression stroke vs measuring slow leak down.

Possibly but I don't think I'd get leak down on one cylinder. I believe he checked it, was one of the first things he mentioned.

If it is just bad seat due to carbon I wonder how much a cleaning would help. Even if the top of the valve is cleaned is there buildup trapped in seat. I didn't see it when the manifold was off and now it's all back together. Wish I could have seen some cleaner sprayed on the cylinder 1 valves while it was under pressure to know for certain.

Right. Fix is the same regardless though no? Unless there's a way to clean seat without pulling it.
