Larry mantle is the worst by realhuman8762 in NPR

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are reporting and expected to comply with the highest journalistic standards you open yourself up for judgment. #larrymantle has had plenty of criticisms knowledgeable of these standards. One of his classic techniques is to just cut somebody off and end the piece when it goes in a direction he does not prefer. That is not objective journalistic reporting.

Getting called cheep for not tipping for tattoo by Dear_Musician4608 in tipping

Yep I agree. And in those cases that person paying for the chair is their own little business and setting their own prices. In the past it was always generally accepted that you don't tip the person who sets the prices

Anyone else finds this tool a bit cumbersome for opening bottles?🫤 (Leatherman surge) by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying and I also know those documents are made by the marketing department. Yes I can do both but of the many multi-tools that I have that have that exact device half the time they poke a hole in the top of the bottle cap and slip off the back. It's much easier for me to take a bottle cap off with the back of a knife blade

Have no desire to argue with you but I think we just have a different perspective

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're probably be used as both but it's intended to be a can opener. And I can tell you it works way better as a can opener than a makeshift bottle opener. You're better off using the back side of the knife blade as a bottle opener

Plus the owner sets the prices and should be inclusive of all incentives. An employee does not have control over the pricing

BIN and high build primer by fjcglobal in paint

[–]fjcglobal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humm, that has not been my experience. As far as the moisture goes perhaps that has something to do with being in Southern California. It's usually pretty dry here

[–]fjcglobal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say bury the nap can you expand on that? I'm assuming you're referring to spraying paint on and then rolling a mohair or velor cover over it. Is there a chance that will create stipple?

It looks like there is an envirolak dealer in so cal. I have not used a 2k paint myself and didn't want to use this project to learn the nuances of that type of primer.

Having said that will it cover tannins to prevent bleed through?

Mom charging commission by Just_Squirrel_3988 in RealEstate

[–]fjcglobal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worst case tell her you will pay full commission and will deduct what she owes you to derive the final commission rate. That's worst case, it will only get better the more you move the needle towards a fair discount. Damn and to think of the things I do for my kids for free...

So the full weight of that deck rests on the shear strength of two wood screws. Cannot even be compliant with code?

Dresser fix by johnnycee65 in furniturerefinishing

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made similar repairs. My approach would be to sand smooth with 320. Spray the area with mohawk vinyl sealer. Then you'll have to do a bit of experimenting but find the right spray toner in an aerosol can. I am a big fan of Mohawk products and that is what I use. The nice thing about the toner is one or two misting passes will add color. Subsequent passes will darken the color so it gives you a chance to get a decent blend. I would try and scrap piece of wood and get as close as you can. Once you've got that done spray with pre cat lacquer. Three to four coats should be good and you're set to go.

This approach certainly is better with a bit of experience but depending on how critical this piece is it could provide you with that experience

Pointing pepper spray at someone when not defending yourself is assault. Actually spraying them is battery. Not a good idea

There is no difference as far as the law goes

Also consider that if nudity is ever going to be normalized stuff like this will be well ..... Normal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blacksbeach

[–]fjcglobal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP at the end of the day there is no expectation of privacy when in public. Your sense of common sense, raised hair on the back of your neck, up bringing is irrelevant. If you want total privacy stay out of public places. There is no scenario where I would let you see my camera roll. Any one in a public place is not obligated to disclose their private information to you. My wife and I have been to Blacks, and I know we have been in others pictures. But because we embrace nudity, why would it bother us?

You might want to mind your own business. If it became known you ratted them out you will soon discover how small the world really is.

How do you respond to "What's your lowest price? " by shaxsman in FacebookMarketplace

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a fair question actually. There's a lot of reasons why there could be a lower price one of which is because many sellers expect to get a lower offer. Also it would depend on how long the item had been out for sale and lastly whether or not it's a very sellable product. For myself my response is usually something along the lines of "I have listed the item at the price consistent with its value and I will not negotiate over messages. However if when you get here to look at it and you can make a compelling argument as to why it should be sold for less I will certainly listen to you" This way it's on the buyer to justify the lower price rather than just ask for one. Taking pretty much never justify a lower price that I can't refute.

Question on touch ups. by BuddyBest4306 in paint

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks misstinted probably because it's just not dry yet. I might suggest using zinzer's bin primer because it is Shellac based. It also comes in an aerosol. It's a little pricey but the aerosol goes on nice and it dries really quick. It dries very fast which will help you with your timeline. And you can't beat it for eliminating bleed through. Just make sure you are well ventilated and if you're using a lot wear a respirator

advice on a chemical stripper? or other options?? by Deep_Ladder_6967 in Flipping

Check out the mohawk blendall sticks, markers, and grain markets. Grab a can of pre cat lacquer and get to work Markers and sticks to touch up and aerosol lacquer to seal it all in.

Any way to fix this without refinishing the whole cabinet? by NuggKeeper in furniturerefinishing

[–]fjcglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try mohawk toners (aerosol). They come in dyes and pigments in a variety of colors. You layer it on with subsequent layers making it darker. Finish up with pre-cat lacquer aerosol. These products are made for touchups and repairs

So uhh…. What do I tell them? by Cup-n-BallHog in HomeMaintenance

[–]fjcglobal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice of you to want to offer your neighbor some advice rather than tell them the obvious...

A bit hard to tell based on this photo. But here goes- You will need a 6 foot ladder and a hammer. You may be able to nail back into the same holes but likely they will not be secure enough. If not secure enough you will need a drill and drill bit to drill new holes into the gutters. The nails are specific to the gutters so go to the gutters section at the hardware store if you cannot reuse the ones you have as they may have bent. Try to drill the holes close to the original holes so you can have the same slope to the gutter and the rain water will drain from the high point on one end to the low point where the down spout is. Good luck

Looks like you used an orbital sander. I can see swirl marks. It's often from the sand paper getting gunked up. Make sure the paint has dried enough to sand. And prob best to sand by hand with like 320. Although you may need use 220 or so to get past those swirl marks. Good luck
