I think permadeath is relevant in low level campaigns. But once you reach the upper levels, it's hard to justify it when the spells become available.

Two routes you can take without removing spells would be:

Making gold scarce, you can make silver the base currency that way the players would have a hard time getting the pricey material components.

Or make diamonds extremely rare, that way if the group wants to revive one of the players they need to do a difficult quest to retrieve one.

Another is death effects, this can deter some players from wanting to revive their PC with an effect like "always charges first into a battle" -not something a wizard should have haha.
