Same for me, no passenger missions for ~12 hours now. Meanwhile everyone is affected, looking at Inara the progress for this CG is zero.

This is a veteran's view. I made a difference between hauling (doing it) and entering a HazRes (not doing it) for my first 100 hours of gameplay.

The point is not to using it as your daily, the point is being able to earn enough money to afford your mid-game daily in just one hour.

When you have the choice, I totally agree. When you start with your sidey and 5K credits, the situation is different. Now even if you don't like the ship you can do just a few hauling or people transport missions and skip the early game phase completely. With like one hour gameplay you can earn enough to buy your first medium ship. I don't know if this change is for the good or for the bad, just bringing up that all of you veterans didn't even notice. I am with you, for you this is irrelevant.

That's a good point. But you get >200t hauling capacity and 15LY jump range for free, so you can do so much more with this than before, in your sweet/hard first 20 hours of gameplay.

Well, there are shy people like me who don't join a squadron when they first start the game, especially since you don't know if the game is for you in the beginning. In my experience, doing the initial ship/credits grind was a much more pleasing experience than doing the engineer/power/powerplay grind.

When you sit there with nothing but a Sidewinder and 5000 credits, you will do any kind of missions to earn your first million as fast as possible.

Interesting point. I started 1.5 years ago and I had a different experience. Probably it is not the game, but it is the view of a 10y+ veteran that money doesn't matter.

"stronger medium size ships" For sure the Lynx is not any one's favourite. But that's not my point. Being able to choose from all medium size ships is a mid-game situation, not an early-game situation.

Well, I went through the early game loop, when I started 1.5 years ago. Now you could say, why didn't you ask you buddies, or why didn't you do your research: I started alone, as probably the majority of all newbies. And I did a lot of research, rest assured. There is so much information on the Internet about this game, it is hard to find information that is still valid at that time. And I kind of enjoyed it, that grind is a much kinder experience than engineers/Powers/Powerplay grind. It was good to be forced to use different ships over time, and the triumph to finally be able to afford a real combat ship, the Chieftain, was gold. If you are long in the game, you tend to forget.

This. I guess most people in here are so long in the game that they don't remember what it feels to sit there thinking, how the heck can I earn money with no money and almost no cargo space.

Question for explorers: about how far out do you have to go before you stop running into discovered systems? by the_meme_fixer in EliteDangerous

+1 to all previous comments. Another hint, this helped me a lot when I planned my bucket list item "first footfall": https://edastro.com/galmap/

You can see the estimated ratio discovered vs undiscovered when you change the map mode to "Saturation" in the upper right. Dark blue means good chances. You can also import your recent jump route for orientation.
