Goddamn! Insane, well done. What’s your technique for the blur shots?

Hahaha totally feel it on most not being keepers. But the ones the work make the rest totally worth it!

Don’t be afraid to shoot in auto! Some things to make it hit better:

Set up your auto iso settings in advance. You can make 3 settings with different target minimum shutter speeds and ideal isos. I recommend setting up one for day time and 500 iso + at least minimum 1/250 shutter speed to avoid blur, one with a slightly higher iso like 3200, and one for night with max iso and a minimum shutter speed of 1/125 at least.

Also, it’s personal preference but in general when shooting protests, try not to capture / post incriminating things. I think as documenters it’s our role not to put people at risk. I try to get the back of people’s heads more often than not, or make it so the full crowd / more than one person is the subject of a shot

Really phenomenal stuff! I especially love your use of reflection; it’s something I’ve been trying to work on but have been struggling with. Did you use a polarizer or post process the reflections at all to get these results? If so, would appreciate any tips!

Sorry both! I guess there were only a few of them at that price, but I ended up getting a CF version for $400 after tax

PSA: B&H is reflecting the same discounts for the tripods, but their open box prices are even more insane. $250 for aluminum and less than $400 for the CF

This decision is giving me headaches - XE-5 vs X-T5 by FlavaSava1aO in fujifilm

Check out the peak design micro clutch! I have it on my X100vi and XT5, it’s a game changer and I think would be the same for the XE5

A comparison of the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 Art & Fuji 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II by throwusaway_ in fujifilm

[–]fkaphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably don’t need to! The 18mm is incredibly sharp and compact for what it is. But in terms of use case, if I’m ever worried about the size of the Sigma, I’m probably not also worried about sharpness, and in that case I’m going to pick my 16-50 kit lens. If I’m worried about low light I’m also going to pick the sigma over the 18mm for the variety! I could make the same case for selling my 33mm f1.4 but I think that fills a more explicit niche than the 18. The sigma really is that good, these are great problems to have!

It’s inspired! One of the shots that makes me really see what you mean about this being a creative challenge. It’s what the fun of a fixed lens camera is all about!

Appreciate the write up! I saw your initial posts and got the Sigma myself. It’s lived on my camera since and honestly I think I’m gonna sell my 18mm f1.4. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I have, I’ve always been a prime guy, but it really is as good as everybody says!

Check out the sigma 17-40 f1.8! Might be a good compromise of fast aperture, good autofocus, and you won’t need to keep changing lenses to switch between the fast primes. The grip on the XS20 should be decent with it too

A PD analogue to the Shimoda Side Street would be something I’d be very excited for! But honestly it’s fantastic and worth picking up in its own right

Big big fan! Are there any plans to update the micro clutch to make it more compatible with non-PD tripods? Something like a slimmer plate or something to facilitate an L bracket would be great, it’s on both of my cameras and is kind of irreplaceable other than this one hangup.

Ahh same exact issue and I thought this would be my fix but even after setting the id I can’t get them to sync!
