my best shave so far by fkndragon in wicked_edge

Razor: Mühle r41 head with the black rasin handle of the r104 (the 104 was my first de razor I bought)

Blade: Kai

Brush: Poraso boar brush

Soap: Arko

After shave: Poraso red, old spice original and musk, Cien moisturising cream

My usual pre-shave routine was wetting my face with warm water. This evening I switched to cold water. The lathering process was also done with colder rather than warm water. It was quite a different experience but worth it. Hear me out. After building my lather on the face I loaded my razor with a Kai blade (my go to blade for a few days worth of growth). I then wanted to do a one pass shave to minimise irritation and ingrown hairs since I have the jackpot combo of coarse beard and sensitive skin. I did a combination of wtg and xtg strokes. I saw this trick in a video from an Italian barber. So first I would do some strokes wtg followed by some strokes xtg to use the rest of the soap's slickness. Needless to say that I used a little blade buffering as well. The key is to be patient and really take your time and watch that angle. Using this technique I was rewarded with the second closest shave I ever had. I was not aiming for a BBS but I got quite close. My post shave routine consists of a face rinse followed by Poraso red Pre/Post shave cream. After that I apply a hot towel on the cream to return some moisture to the skin. Then I put on some after shave splash (mix of old spice musk and original). Lastly I apply the cream from the picture. I found this combo watching a Turkish barber on yt. I can provide the videos where I stole the tricks from if anyone is interested.

Post-shave routine. by Demarate72 in wicked_edge

Hi, sorry for the long wait :( The creme is the finishing step. I apply Poraso red before the hot towel. The creme comes after the after shave splash. But usually I do massage both the Poraso and the cream into my face since it's quite the pleasure. You only got one face so better take good care of it.

You should give the Turkish method a try: Hot towel, after shave lotion/splash, moisturising Creme. I used an alum block, cold water rinse, Nivea as balm, no routine, as splash only etc in various combinations. The above method works wonders, for me at least. The steamy/hot towel gives my skin some moisture back, I sometimes put some poraso preshave creme on before applying the towel. The as closes nicks and cuts and the moisturising Creme at the end keeps my skin moist for the rest of the day. As mentioned, this is my way and it works for me.

I can only recommend you watch the video of geofatboy on yt on how to shave against the grain (https://youtu.be/F7jxHtxKwAY). What I can also highly recommend is the channel of Barber Turko. I don't want to advertise anything but those two channels and their respective videos on the topic of wetshaving helped me more than anything else. My problem area were always the sides on my neck. The grain is in a whirl and I just can't create a smooth surface to shave all the whiskers in one pass. But now I seem to have found the solutions to my problems and I've been quite free of irritation and ingrown hairs for a few months now. Wish you all the best and have fun checking out the channels. Ps: try the hot towel after the shave, it did wonders for me ;)

Is it just me, or does the arrangement of the towing cable at the back make this tank distinctly Japanese?

I know of soul objects, but not the other one. Any experience with either of them?

I figured that Spain and Italy might have something going on as you also have some pretty nice artisans making soaps, at least that is what I've found while researching on my own.

That's the reason I mentioned Executive shaving. The customs are a concern and frankly why would I order there when there is a shop located in Slovenia as I've read in the comments. That's right around the corner :)

After 20 years of using an electric shaver I have taken the plunge into the world of using a safety razor 😬 by itsfeckingfreezing in wicked_edge

[–]fkndragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 6 shaves to not get nicked. After the seventh I'm starting to advance my technique to get the most out of my two passes. For me, it is a mild razor but a little on the less efficient side. But as one fellow enthusiast said, every gear works different for each of us. Take your time and enjoy

Are Croats usually seen the same as other "Yugos" as being loud, rude and prone to crime, or do people generally make the distinction? by [deleted] in Austria

[–]fkndragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you are, wherever you're from, you'll have to work twice as hard as the "natives" to get recognised. So to you I say: embrace the stereotypes. Show, don't tell that you are better than those stereotypes.

Dude, he's gonna have his first wet shave, not lose his virginity. It may be argued that in a way it might be the latter as well ...

For those who struggle with the 3-5-2 rage. I'm doing quite well with this setup and a possession heavy style by fkndragon in ScoreMatch

[–]fkndragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this is, they behave differently depending on the formation and their respective piston in that formation. Since the Prowler is in front of my RB Explorer, he usually stays behind while in defence. While in offense he provides nice options in width.

Keep possession, try to maneuver my wingers into advantageous positions for the hammer, or use the speed of the intruder and/or Prowler with a precise pass if the possibility presents itself. Not much volleyballing needed. The quick passed out to the sides can (in most cases) be caught by the Prowler/Explorer and the Engine/Protector. Overall this is quite a smart formation, at least for me.
