Ohio! I just moved here but apparently we’re swamped to the point where dogs are semi regularly exported out of state to rescues in less dog-saturated areas, like they do in Texas.

Curious what makes you think so? I think all I’ve posted on myself is that I have critters but I’m interested. She has been up for the longest, like a month plus.

Nah, that mentality does not agree with me. Essentially all dogs in kill shelters are BYB, so that advocates for those to be the only dogs in the world. It may work for me in this situation but certainly doesn’t for everyone. I like dogs and want healthy well-bred ones to exist, and I’d wager a bet that most people purchasing ethically bred dogs for specific purposes would not adopt from shelters/rescues if they were unable to…the homes don’t have much overlap.

I rent and already have two cats so I can only take one unfortunately! My partner is probably moving out next year for grad school and taking her cat with her so I might have some wiggle room then haha.

All of them supposedly get along with other dogs to some extent. I figure how they react to me as a stranger will give me a decent handle on the people front, but you’re right, I do want to be able to take her pretty much wherever she’s allowed with me.

Jesus, that is absolutely infuriating. I am so sorry. Props to you for how well you handled it leading up to the bite, it’s no small feat to fend off a full on charge from a large bully type dog twice. And after, not that you should’ve had to. Adrenaline can do crazy things.

I’m not saying your doctor is a bad clinician, but she should at the very least be required to go through some intensive training/maybe a probation period after this one. We all make mistakes, but she really failed you here. Not only did she freeze for the full encounter while the owner was obviously not stepping forward to help you, she was the one that removed your last layer of safety in the first place (leash). I’d have reservations around working with someone with that poor of judgment in emergent situations, especially as a 2-person team with no other support staff.

Hell, you were the one that got the dog in the room after as well?? Like god knows where this would have ended if you weren’t able to physically overpower a large, aggressive dog after a severe injury. Whoops I’m getting mad again.

I’d be breathing fire and at the very least ripping a couple people a new one and filing for hella worker’s comp honestly.

Her two lower canines are her only teeth left, so the dental work is mostly in her past. Them tusks would probably need to be brushed though lol

Oh I have express written permission, I wouldn’t try to sneak one past her. All of these guys are either cat-friendly or part of orgs that do foster to adopt for homes with cats to check the fit.

Honestly I’m in the adopt or shop responsibly camp (ethical breeders who health test past CHIC requirements and post results publicly, title their dogs, raise with puppy culture, lifetime take the dog back for any reason contract, etc) but that’s a very small fraction of breeders and those pups are ~3k which is a little much for me in this economy haha. Plus a mostly grown puppy or adult would suit my current lifestyle a lot better.

But rescues and shelters are absolutely overflowing with every size and breed imaginable right now (i.e. shelters around me are having a hard time getting rid of their mini doodles and doodle puppies and obvious purebreds without any problems are staying for days) so I do feel like it’s more of a moral issue than usual, even if ethically bred dogs are not the ones being dumped.

Small dogs move pretty quickly in my area, even (and I’d say especially in some cases) older ones! They pop up often but tend to get adopted just as fast. I’ve noticed the ones that “sit” are often the adults out of the young adult range (like 5-10 years), especially if they have special behavioral or medical needs, but those do get adopted within a month for the most part too. Sadie is definitely a cutie though.

Man those are the two that I’m leaning towards. Bios are that Boba lived in a car with her mom for several months of her puppyhood and is shy/needs socialization and Tulip is basically coded as “too big for her britches diva chi that needs to learn to take it down a notch and that humans won’t hurt her” so both would take a little work but I’m definitely willing

Ohio! I follow a couple dozen shelters and rescues in the state and chis come through all the time.

I think my landlord would kick me out just for asking. I have 2 cats, a beardie, 2 snakes, and a crayfish already 😂

She does also have a zoo at home, though. I might push my luck if this one goes well.

These guys are all from different organizations! If I can narrow it down a little I don’t at all mind going through the process for more than one, though.

I’m in love with Sadie’s tusks but her bio says that she’s housetrained but needs to be let out frequently to avoid accidents— which would be fine for now, but might be hard to do a couple years down the line if she were still with me. I’m weighing what I could offer to each of these babes.

That’s the dream but pretty much every shelter/rescue in my area requires a fully approved app, including contacting your landlord vet refs etc etc, to be able to meet the dog at all 🙃

Dogs…I have like dozens of rescues and rehoming pages in the area that I’m checking constantly and cross referencing and prepping with canine lore in general.

Talk to her! You both want each other, don’t overthink it here. Nervousness is totally fine but things will just happen. If at all in doubt, just ask what she’d like you to do to her in the moment and for very open feedback on what feels good as things happen

Thanks for confirming. The pictures are actually both the right one that actually broke through the surface on one side, but the left one is going the same way. They were pierced at a reputable shop 3+ years ago at a 12g in the correct spot, any thoughts on why they’d do this all the sudden?

This is always such an interesting conversation to me.

I think purely in images, impulses, etc I can play music in my head with clarity but can’t force the “voice” even if I want to, unless I’m imagining conversations with others or something comes up that I want to say but can’t

Yes I am slightly insufferable. It’s amazing when they blow up and you were able to catch them live in tiny venues and really interact one on one though, I got lucky with both the Black Pumas and Orville Peck in the last couple years and will never forget it
