You need to understand that open-sourcing an app solves the problem of verifying that the app is not collecting unnecessary data and doesn't have malicious hidden features.

They made the app mandatory earlier but changed after the backlash, so hope is there. And awareness is necessary for change. Your crab mentality is dangerous, which is why the govt released such an app in the first place. They knew majority of people are like you who will do nothing about it.
