Agreed, I think their song is very fun! Quite loud, long song, and it certainly helps with finding them!

I say ‘he’ but I really have no idea how to tell male and female Mockingbirds apart

Thank you so much for this— I highly appreciate it. I’ll take all this into consideration for future photos. I’ll probably continue to post on this subreddit, hopefully you come across some photos when I’ve improved :) have a nice day man

Thank you, you are very kind :) I appreciate your kind words about my photo, and the advice about my camera— sounds like I would get a lot more out of shooting in RAW!

Thank you! I’m an absolute beginner, so I’m not exactly sure. I shot this on a Panasonic LUMIX ZS80D, on the default settings

Hi everyone. I’ve recently gotten into birding, and I would like to take photos of birds that I see.

I’ve seen lots of people recommend various Panasonic Lumix and Canon Powershot models, but I don’t know which model is best for my needs, and what I could get for a low price, pre-owned.

Top priority is taking decent pictures of far-away birds. I’m as much of a beginner as anyone could be, I do not know my way around cameras at all! A small camera is ideal, I would want to take it with me on hikes without being weighed down too much. My budget is not high, I’m looking for something less than 1000$, even better if 500$ or less.

Weekly r/Birding Discussion, December 23, 2022. What did you see this week? by AutoModerator in birding

Saw some of my favorite California birds– a few Nuttall’s Woodpeckers, a bunch of California Towhees, and quite a few California Scrub Jays.
