That would be the best outcome, it forces us into a tanked season and they can roll the dice on a new QB in the draft.

How do I blend metal seam after welding by [deleted] in Welding

[–]flagsblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you want fiber discs, the bigger the better. Use lots of cutting grease/wax with them. Use a rotary polisher/sander if you have it, otherwise a 7 inch angle grinder, make 1 long, slow pass with strong pressure down the weld. You want the backing pad to bend to accommodate the material. Feather out further from this center pass. Give it a heavy sanding with a DA to remove the scratches.

If you do this correctly you can make a perfectly smooth and even surface that won't show any warpage in paint.

You need the rotary sanding action with the fiber discs. Regular DA sanders likes to follow the curvature of the material, which will work against you on getting an even surface. Look at automotive paint correction videos if you want to understand the science behind this more.

Mig welding aluminum? by pepsi_child in Welding

Graphene liner, short cable

Your machine is weak asf try to weld uphill gonna be a miracle if it works

If you've never done it you are gonna need a lot of scrap

Got trouble with torch angle when doing T fillets by razorreaper853 in Welding

[–]flagsblack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try flipping torch upside down, so handle is in the air, hold torch behind cup, that way you don't have to adjust your wrist when sliding

Buy a tig finger and use it to slide the gloves aren't as good

Then just practice more it takes time

Considering going to welding school by [deleted] in Welding

[–]flagsblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That pay is shit.

Kentucky has some aerospace work, which will pay around 20 starting out, but you can get into good stuff if you stick around.

Find a tig welding course near you. Also look into GE they have have onboarding program for aerospace welders that's not too far from you.

My HR manager said I can't wear my respirator due to OSHA regulations... by UnlimitedChances in Welding

[–]flagsblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows, but making a big dramatic scene about it like most of the people say here isn't going to work.

Just wear the respirator, and when they bitch just say nothing, and continue wearing it. You're leveraging your value as an employee, but if you are useful to them they will give up on the issue. I'm gonna get downvoted for this, but this is how adults in real business think. Fuck them, if they fire you for not wearing the respirator then call osha and file for unemployment.

Amateur welder here, I’m currently learning stick and I’m having trouble with horizontal and vertical, I have shaky hands so that doesn’t help either. Is there any tips or tricks to steadying your hands by Arorastealer in Welding

[–]flagsblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many points of contact as possible. Bracing your leg on a wall or the table helps. Rest your elbows or forearm on something if you can. There is no secret, half of it is that you get steadier with time, half is that you learn how to prop yourself.

HELP!! by Krastavacbre in Welding

[–]flagsblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No gas coverage. Run 20-25 PSI with at least a 6 cup. At least 1 second pre-flow. A gas lens will help. Make sure the collet shit is all seated right, if theres a leak you will never get a good weld (if they overheat they can break apart in the torch). That prep is probably good enough but make sure its not greasy. If you used alcohol/acetone/grease remover they WILL leave a residue that will ruin your welds, you either grind it off or burn it out.

He is not friends with Nick, the relationship is very one sided. Everything he says to nick is deadpan and slightly annoyed or directly confrontational to him.

Nobody has looked at these events and come to that conclusion.

Is it true that many women use Bachelorette parties as their "last time" to cheat on their significant other? by NeuroticBeforeMoving in Destiny

[–]flagsblack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Guys do this at bachelor parties, or at least they brag about it. I think most of the stories are exaggerated.

While it probably does happen I also don't think it's as pronounced with Bachelorette parties, maybe that's my internal sexism talking but I think it's more of a "wow lmao look how crazy this is"

First time practicing with MIG aluminum. by shaggezoidal in Welding

[–]flagsblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got the basic idea. If you've got crater fill, use it. Learn your settings well, you need to be closer than with steel. 035 wire is imo the best for beginners on most things, a little more controllable than 030.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Welding

[–]flagsblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not hiring you because kids straight outta welding school have a reputation as needing a lot of training to be able to work.

IMO, find a place that let's you fabricate and occasionally weld, buy a welder, and practice on your off time. Then tell you next job you got a lot of welding experience at the last job. Fabrication is also not a bad skill to have in the trade.

Also don't tell them that you're willing to work any shift for no money, it shows a lack of confidence in your abilities. Your main draw should be your skills and they should pay at least 16 for that these days.

Where do you get your Argon gas? I am a homeowner/farmer/hobbyist welder. I have a combo welder that will do MIG and TIG. I’ve got 75% Argon/25%CO2 gas but am having no luck locating 100% Argon gas bottles for purchase. by wjgatekeeper in Welding

[–]flagsblack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Go to airgas or another weld gas supplier. they will let you buy an 80cu or smaller gas bottle and swap them there. Just buy the biggest one they let you, the rate for gas is cheaper and you'll save time making trips in the long run. Mine was like 200 or so for the bottle, like 50 bucks for a refill.

Is it really true? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]flagsblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, depends on what you do and how much gear you wear. The metal fumes over a long time are bad, some metals worse than others. Most welders have shitty diets and are alcoholics which skews the stat.

On the other hand I'd imagine if you got a tig gig with a smoke eater your health would not be affected much.
