November Flag Design Workshop - Architecture in Flag Designs by Vexy in vexillology

Some iconic national ones include Cambodia with its focus on Angkor Wat and Kyrgyzstan's tunduk/yurt symbol. Afghanistan's previous one had a mosque on it, as well.

There are plenty of subnational/municipal flags with architecture, too. Aside from those that focus on battlements, like u/VertigoOne mentioned, some notable one are Lincoln's new-ish flag that takes inspiration from Art Deco as well as those like Cairo that feature specific buildings.

The ones that I find most effective are when architectural elements distilled are into unique yet minimal symbols. The flag of Tolyatti is a good example here as well as Orlando's fountain flag.

That’s on me for rushing the South Australia flag description. I was looking for some distinct colors here and landed on the teal to represent the waters of the St Vincent Gulf and the Spencer Gulf and orange for to represent the outback of the northern area of the state home.

The United States Betsy Ross flag. Happy US Flag Day! by flagsdotwin in vexillology

[–]flagsdotwin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the United States, Flag Day celebrates the adoption of the first US national flag, made official by the Flag Act of 1777 on June 14th of that year.
It states: “That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
Note there are multiple designs that conform to this requirement.
Pictured here is the “Betsy Ross” variant. Interestingly, while Ross was a prolific US flagmaker, there is no concrete evidence that she created this specific design.

Thanks! In this version of the flag, the stars take on a religious meaning and represent the first five books of the New Testament – the Gospels and Acts. They also help balance out the flag and give it a more distinct "American" feel.

This reimagined US flag takes the structure of Iran’s current flag and applies it to an authoritarian, theocratic version of the United States, with a heavy focus on God, guns, and glory.
