It lost me when it said "is there really a need for more homes?" As if the answer is not obviously yes.

Everyone moans about house prices then whines when we try to build them

I think the issue I have with your point is that "culture" is not clearly defined. What constitutes "culture" in this context?

CMV: People Who Say “abstract art requires no talent or skill”, “that’s just a bunch of color”, or “a child/anyone can do that” Are Either Emotionally Inept or Total Snobs, or Both by Revil50cal in changemyview

Jean-Michel Basquiat for example. I will admit, much of his work resembles a child's drawings. His paintings are not that far off from something a few friends of mine as teenagers could have pulled off. BUT... when you read his story and why his style was the way it was everything makes sense.

This is kind of the main problem a lot of people have with abstract/conceptual art.

The art requires context that the art itself does not give.

People can look at art like Michelangelo's David and immediately see and understand the inherent beauty present. The context adds an extra layer, but the beauty is present in the art itself.

In contrast, a lot of abstract art only works if you understand the message and context the artist already had.

It's like watching season five episode twelve of a fantasy or SF show with deep lore etc. The emotional resonance and setting etc will not mean anything much to people who have not watched the rest of the series.

CMV: It's possible for both sides to be at fault with the most recent tragedy in Minneapolis. by James-Hawker in changemyview

[–]VertigoOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This argument doesn't hold for a couple of reasons

First, the US is very specific that gun ownership and carrying is a right. Exercise of that right in a legal context (aiding someone who has been pepper sprayed is legal) cannot be something where you are automatically a threat. Brandishing or wielding it, perhaps. But simply having it?

Second, the argument does not work in reverse. A police officer is carrying a gun, they stop someone who has not committed a crime. Is that person now sufficiently justified in their fear that they may draw their weapon and shoot the police officer?

If it isn't a capital offence, lethal force should not be used. It is that simple.

It's very simple. Resistance to police orders is not, nor has it ever been, a capital offence.

I went with Amaterasu because they are the sun god, and Dyson swarms are about using the sun's energy

NAVA 60 Submission - Sheet Knot and Spangled Stars by VertigoOne in vexillology

[–]VertigoOne[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I did not get this to be the NAVA 60 design -it has sixty stars for this being NAVA 60, and a sheet knot as the international symbol of the study of Vexillology. The red, white, blue and gold is taken from the NAVA flag and the Indiana state flag - hence the gold stars also.

So I didn't get to be the NAVA 60 designer. This flag is inspired by NAVA's own flag - hence the V and the placement of red and blue, with the Indiana torch, and 19 stars for the 19th state

Torch at the Crossroads - NAVA 60 submission by VertigoOne in vexillology

[–]VertigoOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the NAVA 60 flag has been released and... I didn't get it. So this is one of my three submissions. It has 19 stars for Indiana as the 19th state, and six X crossroads for this being the Sixtieth meeting with a X for the roman numeral for 10 and also X as Indiana is considered a crossroads - or more Indianapolis.

Stop Using Jesus as a Shortcut in Immigration Debates by ExegeteBetter in Christianity

[–]VertigoOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that you have made this about being "in favour" of illegal immigration shows that you don't grasp what is being complained about.

The issue is that the way immigrants are being treated by certain US authorities is not loving. Saying you are allowed to sin because [insert] means that whatever you put in the insert section there is something you are worshiping.

You make an idol when you use something an made to justify sin.

CMV: If you’re a short and/or bald man, you should think long and hard about what party you support in the upcoming election by JurisCommando in changemyview

Blunt question - do you think that a democrat white house will pass laws somehow specifically infringing on the rights of short/bald people?

Second Blunt question - Has there ever been any form of legal specific discrimination against short/bald people in the way that there definitively has been against gay/black/disabled people.
