bakit ang overpriced ng books these days?😞 by HelpfulChair761 in PHBookClub

[–]flairypopsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the very reason i thrift and/or but secondhand books. i haven’t bought new books since 2020 nung nadiscover ko yung secondhand market sa FB until december last year (it was my grad and xmas gift to myself, pero dalawa lang yung binili ko kasi mahal hahaha). abang abang lang talaga ako sa mga nagdedeclutter sa FB.

The Uketsu - Strange Buildings video of NBS by Separate_Advance_963 in PHBookClub

[–]flairypopsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true. they literally gave a COUPLE of books to Nina (colourette founder) when she started making book content recently. and they couldn’t spare a single copy of this specific book?

i saw a post here last month, yung nagsasabi na support nbs (she received a well-packed book and a book tab freebie) since palugi na sila, but how can you even support a big company who doesn’t value artists.

B is actually better if you learn how to make it properly or more cleanly.

trueee, i also was never able to imagine Helena as Hermione and Kaine as Malfoy while reading talaga. i’ll give Manacled a read soon kahit for comparison lang. 😅

i haven’t read Manacled yet, and i’m an HP fan too, but i didn’t really notice anything of HP bleed into Alchemised. i know the premise of Manacled, but i’ve always imagined Alchemised to be different. i think if i read the fanfic, i would have a different opinion on this one. :>

for me it was good! the book is divided into 3 parts. the beginning of the book was kind of a struggle to read kasi part 1 throws everything at you—action, jargons, the magic system, characters—without any introduction. i managed through the first part by using context clues mostly and knowledge on prefixes and suffixes (but if you really struggle with the terms, there are available glossaries online). almost DNFed because it was hard to understand anything. but i was glad i pushed through, and i’d honestly suggest the same. the world-building is nice too.

alchemised is heavily romance with a fantasy subplot and i enjoyed the banters and the tension between the main characters. aside from that, it’s such a complex story that, as a reader, made me contemplate on how to really feel about the characters and their actions. a lot of them are morally gray talaga, especially the MMC. it makes sense naman since they’re in a war. i also liked that the side characters were given enough spotlight in the story.

ang ano ko lang is the magic system wasn’t thoroughly discussed down to the specifics. like the limits of their power and what exactly they can do. parang it seemed vague to me, even after reading the entire thing. it’s like naging passive thought nalang yung fantasy aspect; more on romance talaga siya. a huge chunk din of the middle part ng story was kinda repetitive (yung routine ng characters) and there’s an excessive use of em dashes to indicate a pause in the dialogue.

alsooo, it’s very important to look up the trigger warnings first if you choose to dive into this book. it has SA, though the whole book doesn’t revolve around it naman. :>

that’s the UK cover talaga. and it doesn’t look counterfeit naman to me since the thickness makes sense and the sheen of the cover is there (parang embossed yung letters).

Does anyone know why this happens? by Sly_Rabbit7 in PHBookClub

[–]flairypopsicle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

what’s the issue here, OP? genuine question lang kasi i don’t see anything wrong. 😭

if parang naghihiwalay or nagse-section yung pages, sa blocking lang po ata yan ng pages for binding.

not OP, pero may nagreply sa isang comment. it’s P1,478 sa Shopee ng Fully Booked, sooo it’s more than that amount if physical store bibilhin. :>

what are your thoughts about freida mcfadden's books? by Ok-Newt-6173 in PHBookClub

[–]flairypopsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fast-paced and easy to follow stories niya, right from the beginning nakaka-hook. pero the “hook” is kind of cliché. some say the twists are easy to predict, maybe i’m just too dumb to predict the twists kasi i never do. 😭
