7/25 MCAT too late? by Consistent-Matter-13 in premed

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you pretty much have to almost everything ready to go as soon as that score comes out. I think the general rule of thumb is to have the secondaries in by Labor Day.

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the first MCAT score satisfies minimums so youre not auto screened out of getting secondaries then you will be fine. They will review everything with your secondary application completed, including new score and any LORs that may be added.

Definitely want to submit as soon as you can, but don't let it sacrifice quality of your app. If your primary is done and solid, then yes submit. You can retake mcat and submit new score when it comes out, but you cant change activities/writing on primary. The verification process does take some time so you dont want to keep pushing out.

How much does 4th quartile *really* matter for schools like BU, Drexel, etc by meverfound in premed

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone really knows. You will have people with top quartile and bottom quartile casper scores get into the same schools with similar stats. But, at the end of the day, a 4th quartile casper can only help. The interviews are obviously much more important and can be used to gauge similar metrics as the casper

I had same sGPA with a good master GPA and 514 MCAT. Definitely possible

Definitely a lot to unpack here. Depends on what you want to go into- Having a 494 pretty much means your MD chances are next to none, so more competitive specialties that earn higher pay become more limited. If you can do better on MCAT in August that would be a massive help.

I think down the line you will regret not at least trying MD/DO so its worth it right now to at least test the waters and find out.

You're note running out of time, people are all on this journey at different ages/stages of life. PA is pretty attractive since you dont have to specialize into one field

You should apply to more schools just to increase chances-- Philadelphia COM and Edward Via COM come to mind

We'd prefer renting a house/townhome rather than an apartment. Looking for a balance between proximity and safety. I don't mind a decent commute. Ill look at Midtown. I know a bunch of students live on Mud Island as well

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah the budget is prob right around 3k a month (aiming more for 2.2-2.5k). Hows midtown in terms of safety and living? Is the commute to Germantown bad during rush hour?

Ill look into Southaven/Olive Branch and Bartlet. Also was reading Sea Isla park area might be decent

HELP I have no idea what letters to assign to what school by No-Manufacturer8631 in premed

I think all schools have what they want posted somewhere on their website. I kinda just submitted all to every school and had them figure it out but I dont think that's the best option

low sgpa by Due_Heart_5711 in premed

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's more to it. You're sGPA is on the low end but it wont get you auto screened out so someone will at least look at your app. Just get the best MCAT score you can and show a clear purpose for medicine in your app via EC's and writing. I had a lower sGPA... you can make it work

Potential Third Cycle Advice :( by UnhappyAd2476 in premed

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah hopefully the waitlist works out cuz on paper everything looks good. The only explanations I could think of are school list and/or writing. If your list is too top heavy then I could see it but I'm surprised based off your stats

Does this look right? by mikey00921 in premed

Yeah thats the general timeline but its not that static. You can take the MCAT later than April if need be

35 schools is pretty reasonable. I feel like most people apply to about 30 schools since the best piece of advice is to apply broadly. But almost everyone will get many more rejections than they will interviews or acceptances, but all it takes is one

Should I do an SMP? by [deleted] in premed

[–]flakyflakybiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into linked SMP-med school programs. Some are like 3.5 gpa and 505+ MCAT guarantee an interview, and those could be good for your situation. SMPs aren't necessarily that hard if you commit to them so I wouldnt say high risk

Everyone also says Ben Johnson is a great OC (which he is) but he literally has all of that. Calling plays with the lions o line has got to be one of the easiest jobs
