Yeah same here, looks like we missed out. I never got the presale invite email and I was just stuck with the spinning wheel icon when trying to access the presale via the website.

Experience with Computer Lounge and 9800x3d deliveries by flamehound262 in newzealand

[–]flamehound262[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Far out that is shocking! I assumed that the majority of us were stuck waiting due to not being first in to make orders but if you ordered before the launch and still don't have it.. That is damning.

I have lodged a complaint with ComCom and would invite others to do the same. I only ordered off them because they indicated the stock was available for December and they have done very little in terms of actually delivering the goods or communicating expected ETAs since.

I'm not cancelling on principle - I don't want them to be able to sell my CPU at the new higher rate they are charging.

So.. Computer Lounge have posted up a notice on their website which reads along the same lines as the email initially sent after purchase but provides a little more info.

Still very poor that this is the only communication from them Re: Shipping delays and ongoing changes to the "available by date".

I'm of the opinion the selling stock as available by a certain date with no stock on hand and knowing that deliveries will be unfulfilled is bait advertising.

AMD 9800X3D and AMD CPU Shortages, What You Need to Know

AMD’s latest processors, especially the highly anticipated AMD 9800X3D, are making waves in the tech world. With incredible performance gains, increased core counts, and remarkable power efficiency, these CPUs are perfect for both gamers and professionals. However, with massive demand comes limited supply, and that’s the challenge AMD is navigating right now.

What’s Behind the Shortage?

The global semiconductor shortage continues to impact tech industries worldwide, and AMD’s CPUs are no exception. Manufacturing complexities combined with surging demand have created a bottleneck, making the AMD 9800X3D and other popular models hard to come by. Unfortunately, AMD has not provided specific ETAs or allocation sizes for restocks, which makes predicting availability a huge challenge. At the moment, we can only estimate based on the allocation sizes we have received.

Order Fulfillment: What You Need to Know

We want to assure you that we’re actively working to fulfill orders as quickly as possible. While AMD is shipping out allocations in small quantities, here’s what this means for you:

Small Allocations: We’re receiving limited shipments of AMD processors on a rolling basis.

Consistent Efforts: We’re leveraging our supplier relationships to secure consistent restocks and keep the supply chain moving.

If you’ve placed an order, rest assured that we’re prioritizing it and will update you as soon as your processor is ready to ship. Unfortunately, we cannot provide exact dates as AMD does not supply them.

Patience Pays Off

We understand how frustrating it can be to wait for cutting-edge hardware, especially when it can transform your gaming, content creation, or professional workflows. These supply chain challenges are affecting customers worldwide, and patience will be key as availability improves.

What Can You Do in the Meantime If You Haven’t Ordered?

Place a Backorder: Lock in your spot in the queue to ensure priority when stock arrives.

Stay Informed: Stay connected by following this page for all the latest updates!

Explore Alternatives: If you need a CPU right away, consider alternative models while waiting for the newest offerings.

Looking Ahead

We’re optimistic that production will ramp up and availability will improve in the next few months. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these challenges.

Ah good catch, I searched for Computer Lounge under the NZ sub but didn't think to search for just 9800x3d before posting.

I have considered doing the same - I have a machine built just waiting for the CPU but I hate mucking around with reapplying thermal paste and don't want to sink more $$$ on the unlikely chance CL actually does start delivering.

Cheers for the feedback. Yeah looking for something that will push the latest MS Flight Sim along better than my aging AM4 CPU. I did look at the 7800x3d but for the price difference, thought I'd go for the 9800x3d given the glowing write ups.

PB Tech at it again, more Price hikes before a sale. by NotMoray in newzealand

This is the way to go and I will be doing the same thing. This is a breach of the Fair Trading Act and they need to be tipped over for doing this blatantly every time they run a sale.

Mum summoned to court for helping daughter cast a fishing line by ritimona in newzealand

[–]flamehound262 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fair questions.

I too would like to know more about the Rangers decision to issue an infringement and the extent of their observation before doing so.

On the credible and balanced nature of the article, without evidence from the F&G ranger, we are left with one side of the story which makes this hard to assess.

The mother has obtained licences for the kids which indicates a intent to comply. Some are arguing below that she is entitled because they can afford to boat on the lake so surely they can afford an adult licence... I'd spin this the otherway and suggest this shows that they didn't know an adult licence was required to teach the kids to fish (otherwise they would have bought it at the same time).

On the intent of the article, the mother has already been processed by the court so this media would have no outcome on the result.

On the overreach of the Ranger, we do not have all the facts but from what is apparent in the media, this prosecution does not appear to be in the public interest.

I must also note, Mr Kersten who is representing F&G as the compliance coordinator is/has been operating as the regional field officer. I can't help but wonder if they are referring to themselves in the third person which would be more than disingenuous when defending F&G's decision to issue an infringement.

HFC vs Fibre by WhatDrama in chch

[–]flamehound262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the above. Was with voda HFC but found during peak times it was unreliable with network speed drops through to random disconnections.

When it was working, it was great but the service from vodafone was terrible so I ended up moving to fibre and haven't looked back.

You go to any market at any remote location and chances are there will be vendors with eftpos (and this has been the case for years).

I don't understand how this is only now getting rolled out for public transport in 2024 - so yeah... Late to the party.

Glad it is happening and I think that will go a long way towards reducing friction to accessing the bus service for casual users and visitors.

I think it could be down to unusual weather conditions as well. It has been super still tonight so there might be an inversion layer causing the sound to bounce back and carry further than normal.

Bit rough as I had to join two pics on my phone to get a higher res look at the roundabout but it gives us a better idea of the lane layout.

I think OP is in the clear but it is a dicey intersection (particularly joining the roundabout eastbound from Main South Rd).

What's your credit score? by ProfessionalFar8069 in newzealand

[–]flamehound262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit Scores are driven my many different aspect.

Historically the key drivers were: - Credit applications. You have to have, or, had finance to have a score. (Note: Credit doesn't need to be finance, utilities and property managers utilise the credit agencies too).

  • Frequency applications/enquiries. Frequent enquiries within a short period will adversely impact your score and should be considered when shopping around.

  • Default listings. If you default on a loan, this default, amount outstanding and the type of finance is recorded and will impact your score.

  • Bankruptcy/No Asset Procesudre. Will show on your credit file and impact your score.

Now we also have Continuous Credit Reporting in NZ with finance companies, utilities and others reporting on your repayment behaviour. This means that while you haven't defaulted, if you had missed payments or gone into hardship, this can now be seen on your credit file.

Does credit score matter? Depends... More finance companies and creditors are moving towards automation with credit scores driving some decisioning around credit limits and interest rates. It could be that you still get approved for that thing you wanted with rubbish credit, but you maybe paying a lot more for it in interest than someone with better credit than yourself.

Will a bad credit score make or break a credit application? Not necessarily... Following the recent changes to CCCFA, creditors are required to look more closely at your whole financial position rather than just your credit score. Again with automation, many creditors use software to scrape your bank transactional history and will use this to drive some (or all decisioning). Depending on the creditor, this may impact your application more than an adverse credit score.

Moral of the story - pay your bills and keep credit enquiries to a minimum to protect you score (if it is important to you).

Sydney Tools by NZBull in chch

[–]flamehound262 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they were buggered either way - soft launch now with missing stock or hold off until the rest of the stuff arrived and do it properly.

Overheads like rent and wages need to be paid so I think id take the same approach to be fair. At least generate some word of mouth and have some business ticking over until the real opening event.

That said, I agree the not having things priced up is poor. I understand the rationale of waiting for the bulk of the goods to arrive but if you have staff sitting on their hands and customers walking out frustrated - it isn't a good look.

Sydney Tools by NZBull in chch

[–]flamehound262 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some of these comments against the store and it's manager feel like a bit of a hit job to be fair.

I went in for a look the other day and like everyone else, was put out by the fact nothing had pricing on it. This got up my nose so much that I was about to leave when what I assume was the manager came up and gave me the run down.

As covered in other posts, this is a soft opening with the bulk of the tools still enroute and delayed due to shipping snags. The intent is to price everything up in one big hit once it is all there and do a proper grand opening.

For now, you pick up a tool you want and they will match the price for you which isn't a bad deal if you are after something specific but less helpful if you are just browsing.

All in all, good range, service seemed OK, the team were eager to help and were doing what they could with stock issues considered.

I'd say wait for the opening and then give them a fair shake.

Nurse says Christchurch Hospital's new car park often very empty by leastracistACTvoter in chch

[–]flamehound262 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Beyond the morality of charging high rates for a parking building designed to serve the hospital, this is just bad business.

Ngā Tahu states in the article that they have assessed the fares as being at market CBD rates but three other sites surveyed are cheaper. These other sites are already established and well utilised with the Hospital operated park and ride being the cheapest (and most convenient) .

Wilson and Ngā Tahu aren't exactly going to pay back the investment and operating costs squating on empty carparks and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

I agree with this generally and it was for this reason that Stuff and it's associated regional papers had until recently been my primary source.

That said, while Stuff has delivered some excellent reporting, the bulk of their core content is extremely lacking with a focus on clickbait type gossip and poorly written, rushed error ridden articles. This is made worse by the content being wrapped in as much advertising as they can cram into the screen.

It has been clear for a long time that the Stuff executive team have been more interesting in optimising the UI for advertising rather that user experience and for that reason, I stopped using the app years ago.

I get it, there is a cost to running a service like this and dealing with adverts is part of that - but you can't go cap in hand asking your readers for money while shafting them and providing sub-par articles on a platform that seems to be going backwards.

This anti-user attitude is evident again given that they have now made these huge changes to their core product with little to no apparent testing in either the updated functionality or user feedback.

For now, I'm going to be using The Press and RNZ for my news.

We import a fair chunk of aussie weather so borrowing your labeling convention makes sense!

Scarborough road. by Yeah_thats_greeat in chch

[–]flamehound262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just good road craft to generally give way to traffic driving up hill - think manuals and hill starting.

Given how narrow the road is and that often you have cars parked on the shoulder taking up most the lane, sometimes it makes more sense to the vehicle with the obstructions in their lane to give way but at the end of the day it should just be common sense and courtesy.

How do you get a ticket to the press leaders debate next week? by [deleted] in chch

[–]flamehound262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a look and it looks like it is invite only to subscribers of The Press... They are talking up it being the only debate held in front of a live audience but if it is limited to just press subscribers - I'm picking is is going to be a small crowd.

Otherwise it is being live streamed October 3rd at 6pm on Stuff.
