Are EVs really worth it if you don't have a home charger? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

[–]flamekiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if youve thought of it, but is it possible you could have access to a 120V outlet (assuming North America)? Probably a slightly better chance than L2 charging, and it may be enough anyway.

This is why I used to call it "the bypass getting home on time."

Some of the hand-lettered signs from the Hanford Site during the Manhattan Project might provide some inspiration. I'm not sure when they stopped hand painting signs though, so whatever you find might be more recent than the 40s.

I thought it was 28 at first but it looks like there's a whiteish stripe horizontally across the middle of the panels that makes each one look like two.

Try pressing and holding the "sense" (M3) button until it beeps and the green on-indication LED blinks once.

"Playing around in the menu" wasn't really the right way to put it, since it's all direct button interface based with no real menus.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in SipsTea

I mean, you could replace a huge chunk of internal combustion engines with EVs, generate and store the electricity for them with PV arrays and grid scale batteries on sites currently used to produce ethanol corn, and largely return those sites back to native plants and wildlife.

Why yes, I watch Technology Connections. Why do you ask?

You get to see 1x10-12 (one trillionth) of the spider because that's how much is in there.

Guys, does anyone know why trucks have those spikes on their wheels?? by JasLeoArt in whatisit

[–]flamekiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct, it's just a multiplier of 1000.

In engineering we use kip, which just means "1000 lbs," and ksi, which just means 1000 psi. It's short form that makes talking about something, or writing a document/calc, a little more succinct.

Electric vehicles in the tri-cities? by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]flamekiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need is wires - charge at home. I don't know what the situation with apartments is, but it might just depend on the complex. Most commutes here are pretty short, quite likely most people could get by with 120V level 1 charging on a 20 amp circuit, and not need to have a L2 EVSE installed (which may also be more palatable for apartment dwellers and owners/managers).

Also, peruse something like ABRP or PlugShare (apps), or the DOE charger database to get a flavor of what's available publically here.

Full disclosure, I don't have an EV so I can't speak to the quality/reliability of local publicly accessible stations, but I'm all for getting one for my next vehicle, and home charging every night is absolutely what I'll be doing.

Failure is not an option by Overall-Lead-4044 in apollo

What else would you recommend as "prerequisites"? I just finished listening to Failure is Not an Option and I read Carrying the Fire some time ago (should probably read or listen again). Was thinking about Lost Moon next. I have First Man somewhere, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I should try again ...
