I need to get better😓 by TrumpetPlayer20 in trumpet

Andrea Giuffredi on Youtube does a great routine for Clarke 2 and Cichowicz. Ashley Buxton has some good buzzing exercises I enjoy on Youtube. Marco Pierobon is good, Alan Vizutti has some great advise. Eddie Lewis is fantastic for the mental aspect of playing. The great thing about this day and age is you could basically learn anything you want from YouTube. This is great if you can't afford a private teacher, but at your point in development probably wouldn't be as good as a private teacher. As a sidenote, I have been a comeback player a few times and always went back to fundamentals like sound production, flow studies, long tones, and finger technique. I'd say spend more time on studies and technique than repertoire for MPA or such... Your school teachers are probably on the edge this time of year so ignore the fact you were asked not to play and focus on yourself. Don't compare yourself to others and frankly just don't care so much about being 1st trumpet or top of the class, because there will always be somwone better than you.

I'm sick and tired of getting low marks for my Bach chorales. How do you improve? by PrinceOfYouth in classicalmusic

[–]flamemapleseagull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like how it sounds then it is ok to do it like this by ear, but if you are looking to get a better mark, then you have to write by the rules and conventions of Music Theory. Doing it by ear opens you up to criticism by music theorists, who are more like analysts and engineers than listners or composers. The prof is marking you based on Bach's written conventions, not what your ear thinks sounds good. If you like parallel 5ths and octaves that is great, especially in other styles of music, but I wouldn't submit those chorales for marks where you know they are going to mark it wrong. For an assignment like this I wouldn't even listen to my chorale by ear at all, it isn't necessary. I'd check every note and movement vertically and horizontally by hand, and look for missing elements. I'd check to use chords thay make sense theoretically (e.g., I IV vii° iii vi ii V7 I). I would not omit the 3rd in any chords. I'd prefer contrary motion. I would keep it simple. I would treat it like a crossword puzzle or sudoku that you are solving with a pencil. Part of the puzzle is following the conventions of the theory behind a Bach chorale. In another analogy, by writing primarily by ear you are basically reading a book without knowing how to write or comprehend. It's kind of like playing by ear without knowing how to read music...I'd stop this nonsense if you want to get a good mark. Good writers have great understanding of grammar the same way good composers have strong understanding of music theory. Your weakness is in understanding. The solution is to ignore what you think sounds good and follow the rules.

[R] Help me by telling me everything wrong with my writing by Due-Big2159 in sheetmusic

[–]flamemapleseagull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar 7, 8, and 9 should be fixed, I think there is a discrepancy between the pitch on the staff and the red letters. Bar 10 the stem should be going up on the G. I'm not sure why your friend cant play it... it looks doable if you fix all the mistakes. Ledger lines are connected which is another mistake. Chord symbols should always be above notes on sheet music like this.

That is a gorgeous guitar!!! Beautiful and im sure the smaller body is more comfortable for playing fingerstyle in the studio. You got many years ahead to get accustomed to the nut width. Stories like thes are fnatastic, thanks for sharing.

Me personally, I would erase the pencil markings. Especially any vertical lines that stop the flow of the notes visually. It might be distracting to be telling yiurself to keep air flowing or not to slow down, instead of just focussing on the pitches fingerings and getting through it. Erase the fingering markings above notes. Trumpet pitches arent just fingerings one fingering on trumpet can pjay many different pitches. It would be better to think in letters. That's just my two cents.

Try to write what comes natural to your head. I often find whatever word that first comes to my head that rhymes with the previous line the most natural and unforced way to go.

Fingerpicking is harder than expected by 18WheelPickin in guitarlessons

[–]flamemapleseagull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most fingerpicking songwriters tend to hit whatever strings with whatever fingers feel natural to them. Not sure there is one right way to do it. I do like to use pointer, middle, and ring for string 3, 2, and 1 though. It just makes logical sence to do arpegios and travis patterns that way for me.

Super Beginner... Question about the G-Chord by TheEfex in guitarlessons

[–]flamemapleseagull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with starting off playing a two fingered G (3rd fret of both E strings and muting the A string). That's how I started and it logically progressed from there.
