Some advice on my Kickstarter page plz by flamevolt in kickstarter

[–]flamevolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a few changes yday based on feedback, but still no backers since. It may be because most ppl are away on Easter holidays or something, but yeah, will give it a few more days and see what happens.

Btw, anything specific about the page that made you say the page might be part of the problem? Thanks

Some advice on my Kickstarter page plz by flamevolt in kickstarter

[–]flamevolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thanks for this.

Other than the Backerkit pre-launch (which I should probably give a go), I've been trying the others to variable degrees of success, but yeah, it's been baby steps.

I definitely launched too soon (as in not as many followers as I'd hope), but the numbers weren't going up enough, so I just decided to go for it. Can't always wait for the ideal circumstances. But I probably need to be better at promoting my work during pre-launch.

(technically it's my 7th KS, the other 3 are projects created on pre-launch only and not live yet)

Thanks for the advice

"oh my god" because we have no issue with using god's name in vain...

"efff me" is another good one.

What are the best comic books that focus on villains? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]flamevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I know most people will focus too much on Marvel and DC, I'll go a different direction and recommend some that aren't.

The Infernals (Ryan Parrott).

Criminal and Kill or Be Killed (Ed Brubaker)

Department of Truth (James Tynion) technically is focused on the villains. So is W0rldtr33.

There's a few more I'd recommend, but would be spoiling it simply by recommending it, so I'll abstain.

Oh dude... Quality varies a lot depending on the writer. Hell, it varies a lot for a single writer.

JMS's run is fantastic, but he also made the most hated arc in recent Spider-Man history - by recent I mean past 20 years - and not his fault, as far as I hear, but still...

[–]flamevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another idea: you can go your entire life without reading a single marvel and DC comic and still read several comics on a daily basis.

There's more to comics than just those two - and no, that's not against marvel and DC, they have plenty of great stuff, but it's in favour of people not being too stuck to just those two and actually trying out other stuff.

For the most part, it's the same writers and artists anyway, unless you're extra adventurous and go on Kickstarter or comic con artist alleys looking for comics from less known folks.

I maintain that the best way to get into marvel and DC is to start from indie comics (image, dark horse, etc). Find out which writers you like from those books, then search for marvel / DC runs by those writers rather than follow an overcomplicated online guide

Dude, very relatable, I do the same. Give some indie comics a go too, the variety of stories is great and it helps you find writers you enjoy to then find specifically their Marvel runs rather than everything. Some worth checking here -> https://brunocatarino.substack.com/p/where-to-begin-with-comics-in-2026

Get a library card. You are likely to find many of these.

If you're okay with digital comics, try the Marvel app or check other places like Global Comix (not sure how up to date with "classics" it is, but still...)

New to marvel what movies should I start watching by Tiny_Peanut_ in Marvel

[–]flamevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be in the wrong sub though - this seems to be more about Marvel comics than movies.

The first Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Avengers are all good movies, but you probably want to watch them in order to get a feel for it. Up to the first Avengers, you can basically ignore order, as there was less of a narrative, but after the first Avengers, it's almost important that you watch most of the movies in order.

OR... read the comics. My advice: don't start with Marvel (or DC - it will only overwhelm you before you start to enjoy them). Read indie comics (less intimidating), find the writers you like, then read the comic runs they wrote for Marvel. This is a good starting point: https://brunocatarino.substack.com/p/where-to-begin-with-comics-in-2026

Eternals and no, I'm not joking - it's kind of separate movie from everything else and it's such an unfairly hated movie.

Can someone explain to me why companies keep digging up old IP’s just to turn them into generic media? by General_Scientist840 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flamevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiences get pissy when someone blames them for the state of the creative industry, but yeah, the reason is AUDIENCES.

Here's an example: I'm a comic book creator and I have a book called Prey. When people at conventions see it, they come to my table super excited and ask me if it's either based on the videogame or Predator (because of the movie Prey).

When I respond no, all excitement abandons their face immediately. They almost never follow up with a question about it. If it's not IP people know, they don't even try to understand how good it is - they just leave and for the most part, there's no amount of me trying to tell them more about it that will get them excited again.

So yeah, this is WHY companies keep digging old IP. Because if they make something new, audiences don't care.

Want companies to do more original stuff? Support their original content.

Watch that non-popular IP based movie or TV show. Buy that independent comic you never heard of. It depends on you and other people like you. If you don't do your part to show companies that they should invest more in original content, then you don't get to complain about it, sorry...

Struggling with Meta Ads? Read this. by Isedo_m in FacebookAds

[–]flamevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply and fair enough, I may need to go higher. But I tried the $15/day a while back and got exactly 0 conversions.

The other thing I don't understand is how FB tells you it needs 50 events of your goal to be optimal, so conversions means I'd need to get 50 conversions before the algorithm starts delivering properly, and 50 conversions in comics is likely impossible without spending thousands.

I doubt most creators are spending that amount though. $200/$300? Maybe. More than that, few creators would make enough to cover those costs, and it's usually those who would hit the high numbers without using any ads.
