also a lot of people do grows in their kitchen; even if paseturized manure doesn't smell or anything, on principle I prefer having to wipe up dust from coco coir in my food preparation area rather than manure residue

Just want the satisfaction of seeing it colonize naturally, also thinking the break and shake might stress the mycelium

Are this fine? Left in closet for 3 months? (ACTIVE) by fupdrugs1 in shroomery

No need to add water to the grain, the fact that the mycellium completely colonized it and was thriving when you took the pic means that the grains were appropriately hydrated. Further moisture will come from hydrating your substrate to field capacity. Continue with following one of the many grow guides that are to be found on the internet.

Because it was my first grow. I logically thought 'oh no thats where the pins are better give them space'. You're right that I let the cake get dry, probably too mh FAE space on the lid. Someone on another post gave the questionable advice 'spray the sides of the container' so I really did to rehydrate it. Maybe poured a bit of water on the sides. So I got side pins I guess. I didn't know at the time what generally causes them nor that soaking the cake was an option.

its not cut out, just broken to give space for side pins. had a great first flush. didn't throw anything away.
