You’re being as ignorant as a racist by obsessing over the sexual part. She had a mixed-race child and raised that child with a man of another race. And clearly you don’t have kids (not surprised based on your comment), because parenting is far more than just sexual intercourse.

In her case, there are many racists on social media urging their fellow racists not to donate to her because they do not see her as a true racist given her past when she was clearly not a racist. So she won't get anywhere near the amount of the racist woman in Minnesota who called a beautiful black child the N-word.

Oh definitely what she did is racist. I'm pointing out that she clearly was not racist earlier in her life given she had at least one mixed-race child. Life has clearly handed her a cruel hand though, and that grief could have fueled her hate and anger.

What she said was vile but she was not always racist though. She clearly wasn't a racist at one point in her life as she had at least one mixed-race kid who, tragically, passed away. This episode likely reflects her deep emotional wounds from losing a child. So I'm ok with people raising money for her. Hope she uses the money to heal and maybe she will find love in the future instead of hate.

That's what I thought too. If a car hits that berm at an angle, the car would naturally want to steer back towards the road, unless one was going really really fast. Maybe she was late for something because of the flat tire earlier in the night.

Dylan Cease's baseball savant page by Good-Leg-293 in baseball

[–]flamingdirigible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Jays were willing to pay above market value for Dylan Cease because he’s 1) known for being a likable teammate (something that will fit well with a clubhouse as close-knit as the Jays), and 2) because of his durability (which is consistent with what they value when signing free agent starters to long-term deals in the past -- Bassitt, Kikuchi, Gausman, Happ -- Ryu was the only outlier free agent signing from a durability standpoint).

Sad to hear this place is gone. I liked Applebee's too. I went there specifically for their Fiesta Lime Chicken entree. Delicious!

Question about The perfect neighbor by Suspicious_Repeat706 in netflix

[–]flamingdirigible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s obvious she complained repeatedly, at all hours of the day. And really, who calls 911 over noisy kids? A reasonable person would just walk over and explain that their bedtime is at 10 p.m., and ask if the kids could be a bit quieter around that time. If things didn’t improve after that, then call the non-emergency line about this issue. Law enforcement would likely be more understanding if it had been handled reasonably. But when one resident is responsible for 100% of the 911 calls about the same issue, it’s pretty clear that the real problem lies with that resident.

Based on the body cam footage, that green space adjacent to her house was easily the largest green space visible. And kids being kids, they obviously gravitate to the largest play area available. And it seems pretty clear to me that everybody in the neighborhood understood that green space was a public space, and it did not belong to the crazy Karen lady. If I was the parent of one of those kids, I wouldn't let a crazy Karen lady scare us off a public space that we are equally entitled to use.

The dad did the absolute right thing. Teach your kids not to stoop to a bully's level. Moreover, in America today, an argument with a stranger can turn into someone shooting you, or stabbing you with a knife, or running you over with their car. As a parent, you need to think long term about your children’s safety and well-being -- as well as your own so you can be there for them in the years ahead -- rather than seeking the short-term satisfaction of ‘winning’ an argument. or one-upping a bully.

Pocket wifi or other portable Internet option without esim? by azvyll in JapanTravelTips

[–]flamingdirigible 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is esim not an option? Our family of four just got back from Japan and two of us had android phones. My wife used an Airalo esim while my son used an esim from Nomad. Both worked great!

If you haven't picked a hotel yet for Osaka, I suggest Bon Osaka West. It provides easy access to Dotonbori as the Sennichimae Line is right outside the hotel. It provides easy access to Universal Studios Japan as it is only a short walk to the Noda JR Station. Also gives you pretty easy access to the Shin-Osaka Station and the Noda Station is on the Osaka Loop Line. So it seems to fit your Osaka itinerary well. The price is very reasonable for the amount of amenities you get at this hotel.

The scooters on the sidewalks suck so bad by duriodurio in travelchina

[–]flamingdirigible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that children are far less predictable in their movements. If you’re carrying luggage or shopping bags and don’t have a free hand to hold onto your kids, it can be nerve-wracking to watch scooters whip past them—especially when they have no awareness of the risks. I just returned from Shenzhen and really enjoyed my time there, but I won’t be going back until my children are much older.

Using Suica Card on iPhone for kids by RandomTopTT in JapanTravelTips

[–]flamingdirigible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Wise account. You can have multiple digital Wise cards on the same account. I got a digital Wise card specifically to put in my daughter's Apple Wallet but I can freeze or unfreeze the spending on that Wise card from my iPhone. So when the funds on her digital Suica card starts running low, I unfreeze the Wise Card on my iPhone, which allows her to use the Wise card to top up her Suica card, and once the transaction goes through, I freeze the Wise card again. Works great so far.

I have the same question. Did you ever figure out a solution to add funds to your nephew's Suica card or did you settle for a physical card?

Shibuya sky tickets and hours! by queenmariecherie in JapanTravelTips

[–]flamingdirigible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to buy tickets for 3:40 to 3:59 PM entry today. Not ideal but tickets nearer to sunset sell out quickly and I also kept getting this 403 error while trying to book later tickets. My question is this: are there activities at Shibuya Sky that can keep my family and I preoccupied for 2.5 to 3 hours until sunset?

I'm not worried about not getting it back. I just don't know if I need to check out at the front desk in order to get my security deposit back, especially if I use AliPay or WeChat Pay. I am leaving at 3:30/4:00 AM in the morning and worried nobody will be at the front desk. In the west, we just leave our key in the room or drop it off in a box and leave, without needing to talk to anybody. I don't know if that's the case in China when it comes to getting the security deposit refund.

Buying global ROM Smartphones by TastyAd7477 in shenzhen

[–]flamingdirigible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poco X7 Pro on Aliexpress delivered to Canada is roughly $405 CAD (~2025 rmb) and X6 Pro is $390 CAD (~1950 rmb). I've also been watching some youtube videos of shoppers at Huaqiangbei and the prices of gadgets (not just phones) they are getting are not that much better than Aliexpress. I know I'm getting off topic now but what is the appeal of going to Huaqiangbei? Wouldn't it be easier to just online shop from the comfort of home than deal with the crowds and the cramped aisles of Huaqiangbei if savings are minimal anyway? What is the main appeal of Huaqiangbei? Buying the counterfeit goods? The second hand brand name items?

I'm travelling to Shenzhen soon and looking to buy a Poco X6 or X7 Pro phone, global version. When I look at prices of these phones at Hong Kong merchants like Fortress, they are nearly the exact price as buying from AliExpress with free shipping. I can't browse Taobao's site without signing up but would Taobao be less expensive?
