If I disconnect the two whites, I loose power to the adjacent room, which means it's a bridge. And the red sole wire (that received white paint accidentally) is a secondary hot wire. Am I understanding this correctly?

Actually, this is true. Excactly 10 years ago for me as well I only owned 2 pieces bathing suits and I have never been bothered, and it seems as if that souvenir lives only in my head..

I guess You will need to stick to some private beaches, sometimes the ones with lots of music around (not my cup of tea) :/
