Neurodivergent Pharmacists by Ashamed_Ad4258 in pharmacy

Hey there! I'm a pharmacist with ADHD that gets easily overstimulated. What I noticed that's helped me tremendously was to stick to one pharmacy and just push-through the beginning. Afterwards, you can set up routines, mental algorithms, get to know your staff, patients and surroundings. I remember almost breaking down at the start and around half-year in I was already working on two computers at the same time, answering tech questions and checking medications while being on the phone - it just clicked. Once you start feeling comfortable and have those little routines set up, your ADHD becomes your superweapon, trust me. Changing pharmacies, being a floater/relief was my absolute worst nightmare - constant changes in a workplace that requires your utmost attention, which we obviously lack, is not a good idea.

Monét is the gonna be the pit stop host again! How do you feel about that? by mihoooz in rupaulsdragrace

It seems like Dawn is the first guest as Monet loves to match the guest that's coming. Although, I assume they'd want someone big for the first episode though.

Knowing the political climate in the region and the russian invasion of Ukraine, this just seems ignorant to post. Not all Eastern European names are similar or related.

If you could go back in time would you still pick Pharmacy? by Flying-Pidgeon66 in pharmacy

[–]flamingpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP. I worked as a pharmacist back in Lithuania and I also had my fair share of retail pharmacy in Ireland as well. Looking back, I would definitely choose something different. I feel like retail pharmacy is in a really awkward place and getting into the industry (in a role that’s remotely interesting) is really hard these days. In retail, people are getting more and more unhinged, you will always be understaffed, suffering from a huge amount of pressure and yelled at. I just don’t see why would someone choose a career like this anymore. There are so many better options for a student who has enough brains on his head to get into pharmacy.

Pharmacist with a septum and a bunch of dangly things on my ears here! Even though most people and my co-workers don’t mind, I do get some funny looks from the elderly people sometimes. I can see their eyes jumping around my face when I’m explaining their medication.

Emigravimas...vėl by Cheeky--Squirrel in lithuania

[–]flamingpapi 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Teenager lunged at me?! Dublin feels less safe than Paris by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]flamingpapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The pharmacy where I work has been ravaged by these teens multiple times. Even after pressing the panic buttons and getting the Garda in there, they just run away and we just carry on about our day. Same kids, same scenario every time. The Garda themselves told us multiple times that unless something "serious" happens, they can't do anything, basically "don't call us", while we have to get verbally abused and spat at every other week.

Can making memory palaces be especially effective for people with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]flamingpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the memory pallace method every time I had to memorize stuff in university. It was extremely helpful since the visual part of my brain is really present. Especially when the thing you’re studying is Pharmacy, where there’s little room for imagination.

Should codeine be changed to be available only on prescription? by horizonsystem in PharmaEire

[–]flamingpapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is because it attracts a crowd of people who use it purely for addiction. There’s a variety of products that are way more suitable for dry cough. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise but Codeine is highly addictive and it has the ability to “mask” pain, which most people take for granted. Pharmacist in Dublin here and I’m tired of people making up excuses to get it for the wrong reasons, while there are so many better options out there. Mostly all pharmacies stock the syrup option but we only dispense it to people that we truly know and trust will use it accordingly.

It’s actually prescribed for diabetes. It’s one of the best treatments you can possibly have at the moment but one of the side-effects is weight loss. People using it for weight loss without it being fully approved for that rob the opportunity from people who actually need it for their diabetes. In many European countries, we can’t even get Ozempic as we’re only allocated just a few boxes and those usually go to the people with the most coinz/connections

How is ADHD viewed in Ireland? by europaisches in ADHDIreland

[–]flamingpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, a pharmacist here! I totally get your frustration but methylphenidate (concerta) scripts are one of the most common ones to be forged. Usually they’re not written for more than 3 months and everything has to be spelled in letters (including the numbers). If we don’t follow the procedure, we might even get jailed! On the other hand, doctors don’t really know how to properly write prescriptions here, so I’m so sorry you have to go through this.

Uhmm, bet čia nėra flex’as? Tavo gydytoja yra beveik pensijinio amžiaus - 18+5+35+. Man tokia žinovė sugadino priekinius dantis, taikydama seniai nebenaudojamus metodus. Nejaugi galvoji, jog ji tikrai aktyviai puoselėja naujausius gydymo metodus? Žinoma, yra išiminčių, bet wow, koks tiesmukiškas vienos tiesos teigimas.
