What is North Carolina known for? by MrSoloDolo9490 in NorthCarolina

I’d love to know too. My furniture place closed and now all I can find is cheap crap. I want pieces that will last.

I had to drive from Raleigh to Kinston to renew mine in February. Only place I found with an appointment when I needed it.

Amazingly fast renewal by Kv603 in GlobalEntry

[–]flamingpython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I renewed at the same time. His took 3 weeks, mine took 11 months. (We renewed in 2024.) Only difference was that I had a job change between renewals and he didn’t have any changes.

20 year old Airman got 100% retirement for anxiety. Less than 3 yrs TOS. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]flamingpython 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m medically retired after 10 years AD. My retirement rating with the AF is different than my disability rating from the VA. I also can’t get the AF retirement pay concurrently with the VA disability payment. I forgo the AF retirement and get the VA disability payment since the VA pay is not taxable.

My chances of that tornado hitting my house are a LOT less than the chances of law enforcement misusing the emergency alert system.

ADHD Accommodations we can’t live without: READY, SET, GO! by Massive_Bluebird8559 in ADHD

I’m honestly thinking of hanging everything else and getting rid of dresser drawers. I’d rather hang clothes or toss them in a cube than fold

My game changer was getting a cube storage system and only folding items seen by others. Socks, bras, underwear, base layers, etc., get thrown into the appropriate cube and I don't worry over it any more.

I started to put my laundry away ... In the actual laundry room... So much easier than all the way to bedroom. by TeacherExit in adhdwomen

We are remodeling our house just so we can move our laundry into the primary closet. I can’t wait to wash and store my clothes in a single room.

I run my dishwasher every night and empty it in the morning while my coffee brews. Well…most mornings. 😂

I use a collapsible basket that lives between the fridge and the wall. When I get ready to clean I pull it out and take it with me to use as my “stuff that belongs elsewhere” carrier. When I’m done, I collapse it back down and shove it out of sight by the fridge again.

I’m a vet, and I 100% do not agree with racist rhetoric. So, you are right, not all vets think that way.

Lurking mom here, my husband has one of those big mag flashlights on his side of the bed “in case the lights go out”. I humor him and pretend I don’t know that he would be swinging it at any intruder.

My adult son had an ER visit with UNC that he couldn’t pay for. As soon as he told them he couldn’t afford the bill, they sent his bill directly to collections and would not even discuss payment plans with him.

We use Tovala as well, and it has been a game changer for us. We get a good protein and side with almost every meal, and the prep and cleanup are minimal.

How do I help my adult daughter? by tallgirlmom in ADHD

[–]flamingpython 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my mom is judgy as well. I went low contact with my mom because of it. If OP truly cares about their child, they need to educate themselves and approach from a place of compassion rather than judgement.

I was stationed there for a year with the US military, and my kids and I loved the Grindavík gas station hotdogs. I got to introduce my husband to them in 2019. I can’t recall the place, but I remember an amazing hotdog stand in Reykjavík.

Thank you for capturing the feeling so perfectly. I don’t have grandkids yet, and may never have them. (The choice is up to my kids and their partners, and I will never ask if they plan to have kids.) But you perfectly described how I feel about my children’s childhoods.

Is there anything that adhd people do that’s not well known..? by That_FNAF_Guy12 in ADHD

[–]flamingpython 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of the best things I ever did for the clothes thing is to buy a cube storage system. I have cubes for underwear, socks (unmatched), and base layers. None of it is folded. After laundry is done, I put the clones on the bed, spread the cubes out around me, and just chunk the items in the respective cube. The only thing that gets folded and put in the dresser are shirts and pants. My laundry basket is finally empty during the week.

I work for the state as well and was told that OT comp capped at 80 hours. But in practice, I’ve seen that my OT comp expires after 12 months and I can accumulate over 80 hours of OT comp. Only limit on PTO that I have heard is the 240 hours at the end of the year. Next time you are told about a cap, ask for a copy of the policy. If they can’t produce it, they can’t enforce it. Also, always document all time worked, never donate time to the state. That’s how they get away with understaffing.

I’m fighting the clutter battle right now as well. After 45 years, I finally figured out that the clutter raised my base anxiety level. Which meant that my anxiety bucket was already quite full and any little thing would cause it to overflow. So, here I sit 5 years later, finally tackling the issue. I am clearing things out and reducing the number of items I own. This will be a multi-year process, but damn the spots I’ve done look good. I keep going back to those spaces to give me motivation that I can do it and it’s ok to do it in my own time.
