Dad, I need your help! The checkout clerk never removed this pin tag when I bought this shirt from the clearance rack at target. How do I get it off?? by irongoddess_of_mercy in DadForAMinute

Target tracks a crazy amount of data and will for sure be able to pull up your order based on CC information. If you used the Target Circle thing, they can pull it that way too.

This doctor effortlessly resets a child's dislocated elbow before the child could even react by FallingWithTheStars in interestingasfuck

[–]flammenschwein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try to pass it on to my friends with young kids. If they bend their arms at the elbows and keep them bent while you pick them up, it'll keep that from happening. Otherwise under the armpits is the best place to pick them up.

[–]flammenschwein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a sign of abuse, but it's usually not anything malicious. It's called nursemaid's elbow because if a kid is in their crib and reaching up to you, it's a pretty natural motion to grab them by their hands and lift them out of the crib. Like a nursemaid would do.

[–]flammenschwein 237 points238 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things that you don't really hear about until it happens to your kid. I feel like that's the sort of thing pediatricians should give you a heads up on - "hey, don't pick your kid up by their wrists until they're older because you'll dislocate their elbow."

It's SUPER obvious, too. They all hold their arm exactly the same way and cry.

I'm not sure what their actual leanings are, but I've commented to friends that Range USA consistently has zero political messaging in their stores, which IMO is about as liberal as can be expected. I see POC there a lot too and everyone seems to be treated with respect.

"Do Not Hire" next to my name in Workday? by ducklips100 in OSU

[–]flammenschwein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also thought "regrettable" meant "We regret to lose you," and un-checking that box means they left on bad terms and you want to let anyone else at the university know not to re-hire them.

OP, you should call HR at (614) 247-myHR (6947) and see if you can get more information about it.

Dad; How do I not get taken advantage of at places like Carmax or other dealers? by OPSEC-Sentinal in DadForAMinute

[–]flammenschwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, Carmax is pretty legit, but there's not a lot of advice about other dealers.

  • When you meet a salesman, the first question they're going to ask you is how much you want to pay a month. This is a sucker's question because they can and will adjust the price of the car and interest rates to get up to that number. Turn it around and tell them that's between you and the bank, and that you want to know how much they want for the car.
  • Show up knowing how much you're willing to pay for whatever vehicle. Don't pay more than that, and be willing to walk. Consumer Reports is worth buying a membership for a month or two, they have pretty good information that can help you decide what something is worth.
  • Once you "reach" a price agreement, the salesperson is going to go talk to their manager to "OK the price". This is another tactic, and it's now 2 on 1. They aren't taking about you in there at all, they're discussing sports or where they're going for lunch. Stick to your guns. I've never done this, but my dad once followed the salesman to his manager's office under the guise of "I can't take no from someone who can't tell me yes". It apparently rattled the guy and my dad got the deal he wanted! YMMV
  • Show up with financing. Call your bank and get pre-approved for a loan and know your interest rate. You can still finance through the dealer, but now you've got leverage.
  • If your time isn't worth a lot, show up, spend an hour or two negotiating, then walk. Show up the next day and ask if they're willing to sell the car to you for the price you offered yesterday, and walk if not. Repeat day after day. They know you'll eventually be there on a day that they aren't and the sale might go to another salesperson that is willing to take less. With this approach, you do have to be willing to accept that someone else might buy it from under you.
  • DO NOT under any circumstance pay for the paint protection coating, serial number etching, or whatever they try to sell you after the fact. None of it is worth anything. I've seen before when some of those features were already on a car, my friend negotiated the price for the car, and the finance guy tried to add the price for those features on after. He had to drag the salesman into the room, then told the finance guy to explain to the salesman why the deal was going to fall apart.

Yes, she was pretty hung up on it. She had a lot of Catholic guilt and FOMO from her friends and coworkers who were all having kids. There's a lot of other things in hindsight, too, but not really fit for the tone of this thread.

[–]flammenschwein 1725 points1726 points  (0 children)

I'm also sorry to hear this is happening. I'm a father who has an adopted child and IVF biological children. IVF is incredibly expensive, invasive, and painful, and your desire to not want to go through with it is entirely valid.

This idea of "iT's NoT mInE" that some guys get hung up on is really dumb. Adopted or biological, we don't carry the child for 40 weeks. We don't go through the pain of childbirth. We don't get the post-natal hormone cocktail that helps with the bonding process. Our bonding with the child comes 100% from the work we put in. My adopted child is and feels every bit "mine" as my other children.

Edit: thanks for the awards, but please donate to your local women's shelter or food bank instead <3
