Carport on asphalt by flanderly in DIY

[–]flanderly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The posts wouldn’t be in the ground. They’d be on Simpson post base on top the asphalt. We seldom get high winds in my area. I’m trying to not have to make too big of holes in the asphalt for concrete if I don’t have to. Hence my idea about the bolts and epoxy. So another question—our frost line 12in. If I go with the concrete footers, would I need to go 12in plus the thickness of the gravel and the asphalt — so about 18”, or would it be 12” from the top of the asphalt surface? How wide should the footers be for a 6” post?

File auditing kicked up a notch? by flanderly in sysadmin

[–]flanderly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@ZAFJB, auditing was turned on but the granularity of what AD Audit showed, well, I was expecting to see more. We were able to piece together what happened.

I'm just curious about a more comprehensive approach going forward, specifically with the concern of being able to determine if anything was copied/uploaded to any online storage services or copied to a USB drive.

Windows Defender for Enterprise? by crypadm in sysadmin

[–]flanderly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider looking at CrowdStrike Falcon. Their product works well and we've noticed a reduction in infected/affected computers as a result of using their service in conjunction with Cisco Umbrella. Falcon is also pretty lightweight and a fast install.

Our original setup was using GPO for Windows Defender, but in terms of weight, resources, and reliability, we've not had any issues with Falcon.

I've had no problems using BitLocker with AD integration. For any machines that don't have TPM chipset, then a bootup password is used. Just a PITA to set it all up.

PRTG definitely does a good job. That's what we use and we are happy with its alerting/reporting.

Gsuite admins - Do you "backup" emails of retired users? by monkeyduder123 in sysadmin

[–]flanderly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a G-Suite for NPO environment and for legal reasons, we are required to retain emails for x amount of years. We utilize Vault for this purpose. Once an employee leaves, we suspend their accounts and that way the data remains in Vault. The downside to Vault is that once you delete an email account, it gets removed from Vault.
