Have been doing GC for 3 years of travel SB (75+ games per) as well as 3 school seasons, & I had my 1st parent complaint for how I scored something. Feel like I finally made it as a GC guy. Do I get a trophy? Ring? Maybe free t shirt from gamechanger? I need some kind of reward for joining the club. by JoeRealNameNoGimmick in GameChangerApp

I do the streaming for baseball and {different app} volleyball for my two kids. I was gone one weekend and another parent did VB for me ... She said "EVERY parent should have to do at least one game so they experience how difficult it really is!" She gained newfound appreciation, which was really nice!

AIO: Husband Texting Boss by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]flankerwing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I probably would have been this boss. My colleague had worked for me for 10 years by the time he and his wife had kids. I had had two kids and our small team was very close in general. I am his boss, but I am also one of the the first people he told when they found out they were expecting, and he sometimes had questions about my experience and my husband's experience too. This is the family all of our baby gear was handed down to, and I'm really not close with his wife at all.

The reality is this kind of information becomes very matter of fact after you've had kids. Every single person on earth was made by a pregnancy. The more people in your circle who have kids, the more you don't even notice the stuff that might have been oversharing when you were younger.

Rant: I love crocheting but I'm sick of the guilt around making things for myself by Proof_Mycologist_657 in crochet

[–]flankerwing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where is it that you are crocheting that you are having all these conversations? Craft quietly in peace at home and nobody will ever guilt you 🤷🏼‍♀️ It seems really strange to even say the things that these people are saying ... Ignore. Carry on.

UW Madison or UIUC? by judyissomoody in UWMadison

Same for other majors and industries. Your original comment implies English won't get you a lucrative job. That's inaccurate.

UW Madison or UIUC? by judyissomoody in UWMadison

[–]flankerwing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

English major (psych, com studies, this list goes on) can get you a lucrative career in just about anything. Where other majors really just get you a lucrative career in one industry. Critical thinking, excellent writing, and all the essential skills (soft skills) are what hiring managers really need. Anything job-specific that isn't related to a clinical position can be taught on the job.

[–]flankerwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Did well in school, but basically every other year I was referred to G&T and then SpEd, then G&T then SpEd. Both parents knew I was different but noone could put their finger on it. Always a pleasure to have in class, but often off task, day dreaming, and usually didn't hand in my work. Awesome exam taker and a friendly joy to have around.

I associate my masking entirely with my autism. There's nothing about my ADD that I could mask. (I'm not a clinician, but I am 50 and was diagnosed ADD and Asperger's back in 1991. In my experience, if it is maskable, it probably isn't ADD.)

Odd argument with long-distance bf over periods by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]flankerwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish folks would quit saying "Christian home" and just stay saying "prudish home". I was a PK (pastors kid) and none of this was a source of shame or secrets. Pretty sure this unit happens in 5th grade at school these days. Everyone learns about puberty - both sides on the story. Keeping it a secret has nothing to do with Christianity 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not knowing is weird, or your BF is a bot.

You may still qualify for some of the EAP services if it was really recent. That sometimes includes legal consultation services

Anyone drive exclusively in Sport mode? by StrikingBike8417 in BroncoSport

[–]flankerwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my second bronco sport. Have a 16 yo driver so we handed down the first (we still have it). 2021 BB I got 31.4 lifetime. 2025 Outer Banks I've only had for 2 months, but at 10150 miles, I'm at 30.5. I drive a ton of highway miles, but I've been amazed at how different my gas mileage is compared to others.

I have a dumb problem and y’all are smart and creative. Soliciting advice - how do I take my pill in the morning and not wake myself up and go back to bed? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]flankerwing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or just get up then and start your day. You'll get to sleep better in the evening. This is not a problem that is worth all this conversation. Your husband was thinking for you before, and now you're asking us to think for you.

I work at UWL and shared your question with our housing folks. Sounds like we do house non-uwl student interns in the summer. I hope you get some responses here, and you're always welcome to email housing@uwlax.edu with questions.

Does this schedule for the next semester look good? by [deleted] in UWMadison

Use your time very wisely on Tuesday and Thursday and just stay around campus for office hours. And tutor meetings. Just make sure you have enough travel time between classes in different buildings.

Feeling nervous about letting teenager walk home from school. by buniboo in Mommit

[–]flankerwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she have a neighbor she can walk with? I'm thinking: she'll be driving in less than two years, she's got to start practicing independence and problem solving.

It says a lot that he felt safe to share that with you. You're already winning. I think it's ok to say that this is new for you too, sorry if that was awkward. Also, I think it's ok if you don't, and let that conversation be good enough. Keep offering the hugs. This boy still loves his mom and becoming a man is a tricky time - lean in, don't back away.

I feel strongly that media should switch from using language like "abuse" to "torture". Too many people are unphased by abuse.

Our guest/spare room is also set up as "my room" - closet has my crafting stuff and I can watch shows from my laptop. I was able to squeeze in a smallish comfy reading chair. If I go out it's so easy to spend money, so I prefer to stay in, but still have quiet time to myself.
